I really want an Avic Z1,2, or 3, but even used they are pricey. I have been close to buying one a few times, but bow out, since I have a hard time justifying the expense. I be a cheap-ass on non essential things.

I mainly want one with a hard drive, so I can load my music on to it, and negate the use of an iPod...which I may be in the 1% population that doesn't own one. :lol:I came across this model Eclipse, and wondering what say you, the peanut gallery. Seems the main downfall is it is a PITA to load music on the HDD. Minor annoyance for the price. Otherwise, what are some others with the HDD option?

Eclipse makes a very fine deck. IDK that it could store music on it though. Cool.

Anyway there were some things I liked better about the Eclipse. It boots faster and the nav seems a little more clever to find routes. My Pioneer has a larger database and a little better sound quality but the Eclipse has a better EQ.

For the price I would get it as even a Z1 is still more money and you need another $100 to upgrade it to Z3 specs.

That was my thing, $340 shipped is perty cheap in my book for a nav deck.

Yeah, it stores music, just is a pain. You have to load the cd, the hit record, and let it play all the way through. If you jump mid-song it only records what was played. I drive a pretty decent distance most times, so it wouldn't take too long to get it all on there.

The cheapest Z1's I found were $450, then like you said, another $100 to upgrade. Worse case, if I don't like this one, I could likely sell it for similar to what I paid.

The Pioneer records the same way. You throw a CD in and let it do its thing. Cant change tracks while its recording. You can listen to the radio, USB, iPod or Librabry but cant mess with the CD.

Really? I thought it actually just ripped the cd to it...well :q:q:q:q I think I will be snatching this one up. Which works, since my factory changer decided to go bi-poar on me a few days ago.

I just finished installing an Eclipse AVN5435 I got cheap on ebay.
I can offer if you some pointers along the way for install if you want.
For as little as I drive the car I could'nt justify spending to much.
Total with harness and amp interface (yeah I kept the Factory Amp)
I was out about $350 plus time to install...
