hey fellas, it's been a while since i've had to do anything to my car but it seems like something might be on its way out. problem is, i can't figure what it is. here's the problem;
i've noticed that when i'm driving and i happen to either make a sharp turn, or brake suddenly my music tends to fade out for like a second. it's weird, it feels like the car just looses power for a millisecond and my music goes out. i've also noticed this when i'm parking and i have to turn the wheel all the way to one side. this does not happen every single time however.

I have not changed absolutely anything lately besides a coil, but my car was already doing this prior to this. i have not touched my sound system for quite a while. i have 4 sets of speakers (8 total) that i have hooked to an amp and again, i have not touched my system. it just started doing it out of the blue.

what do i think it is? it might be some kind of wiring with my audio that has came loose, but it does feel like my whole car looses power and i doubt something with the sound system would affect the whole car that way.

second, i think it might have to do with the steering pump. those are my only leads and i'm hoping someone has either heard/experienced this before to be able to guide me in the right direction.

any info is greatly appreciated. TIA

i would check all your power connections, such as alternator, making sure your battery clamps are tight, after that i would pull the deck out and make sure none of the wires have rubbed themselves through the insulation, after that i would check all your amp wiring

Alternator would be a good guess.

Sounds like when you put he extra strain on the engine belt assembly the alternator isn't enjoying it. I would test voltage. You can do his easily since you said it happens when u turn the wheels at idle.

Have your car idle and use a DMM on the battery and have someone else turn the steering and monitor the voltage read out.

ya plus when you turn your wheels the ps pump pulls a little on the belt ass. making the voltage your alt is putting out drop a lil

I would check and make sure that the belt isn't slipping. It could be worn out, and/or your tensioner could be failed/failing.

Alternately, is your engine RPM dropping below 750 when this happens? If so and if you have a gen I, then your Idle Air Bypass Valve (aka IAC) could be sticking.

Is that iac thing w/ the 6 and/or 8? My LS vibrates a good amount when I am stopped and turn the wheels and mine drops to maybe 700 rpm then goes back to idle-750

interesting. i actually have a new belt/tensioner in my garage waiting to be installed but my mechanic said i had to get some ball bearings as well. i really don't know which he is talking about hence the reason why i haven't had the job done but i might go to the parts store and see if i can find those parts. also, for the IAC, that is the one hooked directly to the Air intake tube right? i have a CAI from Ken, so i had to custom fit that valve (or what i assume to be that valve). it really does feel like what you are describing though, like it loses power. i will do the belt/tensioner first since i have them already. i also have a rear A link i have to replace.
