My $350 Mark Fix It Up Thread

Just plain old O'Reilly brake pads. Not major upgrades. Just put back to OEM standards.:)

On a different note, I have all of the solenoids and suspension levelers, if anyone need any of them, let me know.

With stage one done, time to move on to stage two. Per the Dr.'s orders I sprayed the whole bottom of the car as well as the well as the whole top of the motor with engine degreaser. I pressure washed the heck out of that motor. I sprayed into every nook and cranny. the next day I checked under the car and found a small puddle gathering right in the spot where the transmission meets the rear of the motor. So the rear main seal is leaking. I'm going to try some rear main seal repair.

After I thoroughly looked at the motor, it seemed to be in pretty good shape. Aside from the bad suspension, the vaccum line that goes across the intake manifold was cracked, and the car die. $1.75 worth of vacuum tubing, and it idles fine. I almost feel bad buying this car from this lady for such a low price. It actually cleans up pretty nice.

pull the access panel at the front of the bellhousing, the bolted on one not the rubber plug, if your rear main is leaking the flywheel will be soaked, i bet pan

Well today, I decided to do a transmission service, because the car wasn't going into gear right away. To my surprise, the pan was practically empty. The pan was clean, no metal shavings. Good thing. I hope. I ran out of light, so I will fill it with fluid tomorrow.

Now that I am back on track with this project. I finished the transmission service. This car has been sitting for a while. When I took off the pan, there was hardly no fluid in the pan. I went for a test drive and it shifted smooth. What's the best thing to use to stop transmission leaks? I notice a puddle, and it was fresh transmission fluid. I think because this car had been sitting for so long that the seals are weak.

Spent the day sanding and prepping. I've decided to change the cover to Silver, so I'm spending more time focusing on the details. I'm going to paint tomorrow.

I wouldn't paint till it's under 80* - 85*. I usually paint as early in the morning as possible can and let it 'bake' in the heat of the day, rest up, the wet sand during the cooler nights.

My Amateur Paint Job

For a car that I paid $350 for, I figured why not try my hand at painting it myself. No sense in dropping a boat load of money into a finish. I used a 1 stage paint and changed the color to silver. I did all right, :p not show room quality, but for the very first time attempting something of this magnitude, it looks OK. I got a couple of runs where I got too close, and I gotta practice more on the hood to get rid of the tiger stripes I notice on the hood.
