Anyone thought about a Ford 5.0L V-8 in an LS?

So I have been toying with the idea of putting a 5.0 in my LS if this motor ever has problems. Just wondering if anyone has ever done it? Can't find anything on motor swaps for the LS. What do you guys think....is it possible?
 
you know what...i dont think anyone's ever even thought of that...good luck on that tho...hahahahahahha
 
Yeah but to an everyday person it is not really something you can do, unless you have 20,000 to drop on putting that in there which is why very very few attemps have been made. It might fit with it's size but making it work is the problem. The biggest was having all the electronic in the ls work and being able to run the motor. Ford tried and had to use 2 computer to make it run but they couldnt make the electronics work so it wasn't street legal.
 
Exactly. Track car would not be nearly as difficult as a street legal machine. If you are going to drop that much, you might as well build something faster on another platform.

I'm an "everyday person" :P and it's not going to cost anywhere near 20k. 10k at the most but it's looking to be more around 7-8k. but since i needed a new engine anyway why not spend a few more dollars and have a lot more power

To each his own. I'm only going as far as the 3.9 will take me. I won't want to mess around with a custom guage cluster, standalone systems for tansmission/engine. Then aftermarket window modules, ABS system may/may not work, eetc. I have NO idea how you plan on doing this for 8K. I would love to see it done for that, but I don't think that's a realistic number.
 
If you can put a 4.6 in the ls and make everything work like stock, like it's supose to, be street legal , for 8k, I will do it right after you
 
There was a craigslist posting a while back about someone who had put a 5.0 in a LS but i dont remember any of the information on it...

Oh ye of little faith. who said anything about a custom cluster? just make the stock cluster work. if that's too much trouble then i'll use the one from the donor car. yeah sure spec clutches used a custom cluster. but they were also building it for PR so of course they want it to look one of a kind. Why do you think the ABS may or may not work? even if it does give us some setbacks we'll figure it out. but i don't see why it wouldn't work. ABS has nothing to do with what engine/trans is in the car. (last time i checked abs wasn't a street legal requirement anyway)
Oh and IIRC the guy that got on here and shared about the "baddest ls" he said they didn't have problem with electrical stuff not working. they just plugged it in and everything works. what he failed to mention was that they're still using the stock ls ecm as well as one for the engine/trans.
I'm not trying to say it will be a walk in the park by any means. but many people seem to think it's impossible or will cost too much money and not be worth it. Why build a typical muscle car when you could be just as fast or faster in an LS

As you obviously are better than the Ford engineers that tried this in '03 (ever hear of the One Lap of America LS?) go for it. You may also want to apply for a job at West Coast Customs, or a similar business.

As for the cluster, they are uniquely tied to each vehicle.

By the way, anyone can say anything. Where's the proof? Where is the car, running with all electrical working.
 
Hmm what about a newer 2nd gen 3.9L in my LS? I wouldn't mind having a little more power. I would be happy with the newer version of the 3.9 if anything happened to mine. Question is will it bolt up? Should be the same I assume but one can't be too sure.

The Ford engineers didn't care if it was street legal they just wanted it to run and be able to compete. (they obviously did a half a$$ job considering all the overheating problems)
Please expound on the "uniquely tied to each vehicle" idea
I'm surprised it's taken this long to ask for "proof"
If case you hadn't noticed...part of my sig says in the works..= under contruction = not completed yet= no point in pictures
Don't worry you WILL get pictures and vidoes when it's done.
and as far the completion date..it will be done when it's done. like i said earlier i am an everyday person so it takes time :)

Look up the rules for OLOA. They had to drive the cars, on the street (be street legal) between tracks. Not only did they care about being street legal, it was required!

I've already been there. That is not worth it for the small gains you will see.

There just isn't an "aftermarket" for these cars yet. for the most part, anything you want to do mechanically you will have to blaze your own trail

You should read up on all their issues. Besides the overheating due to the designed airflow and small engine bay, the electronics didn't work. As was said earlier, they had to use many stand-alone systems. There goes the cost.


Get it gone for $8K and start your own business. People will be beating down your door!

I've searched multiple times for literature on the OLOA LS
but i can't seem to come up with anything helpful.
What electronics are you referring to that didn't work? did they get them to work?
What do you mean by designed air flow?

IIRC one article i did find said that they helped the overheating issue with a bigger radiator?
 
spend your money on something else...

the 5th gen mustang produces 315 hp. that's faster than the g2 LS.

but, the g2 has close to 50/50 wt dist, and has better suspension.

can't beat luxury sport to domestic ponymobile... :)

i wouldn't waste my time on that...
