Car Jerking and also crack on the bumper cover

So I'm new here and I have an 04 LS V6 with 72500 miles or so
I've searched and my problem seems to be coils but i'll ask about it anyways just to make sure that it is likely the source of problems.
My car jerks at times when accelerating from a stoplight or stop sign or so forth. The rpm gauge jumps up all of a sudden and then goes back down. It happens in the city mostly not really on the freeway. It also feels at times as if it is weak when I press on it. So is coils likely the culprit here?

Also, sometime ago I ended up crashing into the median guard on a freeway due to a car cutting me off and me, being unable to swerve out of the way safely, I spun out and hit the median. I got a crack on my bumper and was wondering if it was fixable with JB Weld or something. It seems to just be the cover and not the actual bumper.

i had a coil problem in my 02 ls and it had a rough idle and hesitated to accelerate. it also seemed like it was lacking in power. i never had the jerking though. i, and several of my friends, have noticed that it happens after leaving the car parked for a while (both times for me it was when i went on vacation). it's been explained to me that the oil leaks down from the valve covers (which are faulty) and damages the otherwise not faulty coils. apparently, driving the car daily burns off the oil and prevents it from leaking to the coils. just what i've been told.

anyway, if it is the coils, make sure that the valve cover is not leaking, and if it is, then get it fixed too. otherwise, you'll be in the same boat again. and those coils are not cheap.

That sounds more like a transmission problem, but I suppose that coils are possible. Do you have any issues when shifting to reverse? Does it engage harshly? If so, then it is probably the solenoid assembly.
 
When my coils were going out, I too had the surge issue. It was actually a bit unnerving. I was on I-95 heading from SC to DC with the cruise on. At random intervals the RPM's would just cut down from about 2500rpm down to about 800 rpm then instantly rev back up to about 3800rpm for a split second before finally hitting back to the 2400rpm range. It would disengage the cruise at some point during all of this, causing a heck of a jerking to the car. Replacing the coils fixed all of this.
 
FYI...just turned 125k (2002 V8 LSE) this morning. FOrtunately I've never had a transmission issue with this car. Had the fluid replaced by a Ford dealership at about 80k miles. Plan to sell the car before I hit 160k so it's a one time thing for me.

Happens to me too. It feels like the transmissions slips when it tries to shift from 3rd to 4th I think, goes back down to 3rd and, rpms rapidly increase, and then shifts into 4th succesfully. I do have hard shifting whne going into reverse and hard shifting occasionally when shifting from 3rd to 4th, but is this "slipping" of the trasnimission a solenoid too?

Thats how it happens to me, along those lines. Coils didn't get rid of it though. It is only when I cruise from the start slowly like the OP said. If I give it some decent throttle, it will shift fine

AFAIK, yes. The problem is that what one person calls slipping might be what another calls as roughness. Changing the solenoid assembly resolved all transmission problems that I was having with my 04.

The hard shifting, like a car just rear ended youn when it shifts, is a solenoid, but this other problem, the tranny "slipping" would be solenoid too? When it "slips" like that, it wont shift hard or hit hard, it just doesn't shift up right away, has to just back down, revs up fast and too high and them succesfully shifts.

lol. City driving when there is slow moving cars taking off in front of me. I dont want to slam the throttle and slam the brakes all in 2 seconds.

I agree with your definition of hard shifting, I didn't have that. I had rough shifting, which meant to me that it wasn't smooth and it kind of went in and out during the prolonged process of the shift. I can easily see that also being described as slipping. I make no judgment on which is the better term, but I usually only call it slipping if it happens at steady state.

well mine doesn't feel like it was rear ended and i was a passenger once in a car that was rear ended.
And it only happens sometimes and sometimes it happens when i speed up fast but other times it doesn't.
sometimes it happens when i speed up slowly but other times it doesn't.
It started to do this a while ago but not it's becoming more common like if the part that is responsible for it is nearing its end.
I might try coils on ebay since that seems cheap to try or i might just take it to ford and have them do a stress test. Can other places do a stress test?i'll take it elsewhere if they can so it won't be that expensive for a test

The V6 is not covered by the extended coil warranty. It would be cheaper for you (if you can do it) to replace all the coils and plugs than it would be to get the dealer to stress test all the coils.
If it's the solenoid assembly in the transmission, and you have them do the work, then I think it is around $700.
For what it's worth, that somewhat described what I had when the solenoid assembly started going south. I'm still afraid to say with certainty that it isn't coils because these cars seem to have so many coil issues.
