I got pulled over for speeding this morning but the cop seemed like a nice guy. He came up to the passenger side of the car which I wasnt expecting as I just rolled down the drivers window. So I rolled down the passenger side window as I was pulling out my license and insurance card.... which was soaking wet cause I ran my wallet through the washer last night.
He looks in and stares at the stero for a couple seconds then asks me for the cards and I hand him the insurance card and let him know its washing machine water.... not butt sweat. He then says "I hope so." and tells me to get out.... uh-oh. As I get out he says "What year is this?" and I tell him its a 98 Mark VIII. He says "That is a really nice car! Its so clean, would have thought 2008." then he asks about it and I tell him about the car show this weekend if he wants to see some more of them. He tells me is just gonna give me a warning for speeding but he has to check my windows. Sure enough, 12% LP and he gave me a ticket for that. I was gratefull and wished him a good day.
I get to work and see that the fine for tint is nearly double that of the speeding violation! :(

So not sure if he was a nice guy or not? JK, he was doing his job and I am sure the speeding ticket would have effected my insurance. Im already paying $80 a month for full coverage.

Oh well, dont do the crime and all that jazz. At least he liked my car. :D

Unless you already knew your tint was illegal, I could have checked it for you I have a state approved tint meter, with calibration glass.

Well, I guess you would have asked me if you knew I had it

Dr. SVO phd

Not worried about it. Fine is $220 and they said the judge would knock some off if I removed the tint and brought it there. Cant take the time plus re-tinting and fine would prolly cost more. Ill just pay the fine and move on.

Im sure you knew what the tint was since you had it put on right?? My father in law is an ex-police officer and he said if your tint is illegal and you know it, roll them both down when you get pulled over and it will lower your chance on getting a ticket for it.

There is places around dallas the can tint it for way under a hundred.

I got film here, bring it, I'll take care of it.

No warning for the tint at all? I got 5 already for my car. All I have to do is remove my tint, get my ticket signed then reinstall. I still got 3 or 4 pre-cuts in the barn for my front windows :) They never make me pull my front strip (6" should be 4") or my tinted plate cover.

You do not have to roll your windows up for them to check them. I would never deny them that for fear of what they will do, but it is a right that you have.

Do like I am...get a doctors note from both your eye doctor, and skin doctor that they prescribe for you to have tinted windows and you'll be fine.

Law is only interpretations so regardless of what anyone tries to make you believe any law can be interpreted multiple ways. In the aspect of tinted windows...I had skin cancer on my shoulder so being that it is life threatening for me to have prolonged exposure to the sun that supercedes common law because it is a matter of life or death. In other words a law cannot infringe on your right to live or be healthy.

Hope this helps. It may be too late to get out of this one depending on the judge, but I would get a prescription from both those doctors to at least try to apply it to this situation, and definitely be able to cover you in future situations.

Hey Bill, Don't retint nothing...Here in Texas you can bring a Picture to court...Take a phone pic of another white Mark VIII with no tint and bring it to court and tell the court that the car is broke down at home so you took a pic...and your ticket will get dismissed

From my understanding a perscription will not hold up in court. So my cop buddies tell me. Thats just for the eye doctor one.

I am just going to pay the fine and move on. Not going to try and decieve them or lie. Ill just pay it.

Prolly. I just dont see the point of having a 35% tint on it. May as well have nothing.
He said they cut off at 25%, anything below that and they will ticket you. Mine said 12% and my tint is a 20%. It is what it is.

Like I said before, dont do the crime if you cant do the time (or pay fine) :)

Like Tommy said I guess.....tint tax.

They should just make you pay more for your tabs.

Want tint?

Why yes.

That will be $300 more...... give you a special tab so you don't get busted driving dirty :D

It's usually a good sign when a cop likes your car, to bad he still gave you the ticket for the tint. Sounded like a painless ordeal thou... :)
Rolling down both your windows does help I think.

I had 10% tint on my Merc for years. Even the windshield was tinted 50%. It was a wicked look.
I had two extra front door window glass panes with no tint on them that I would switch the odd time I got nailed (which was only 2x surprisingly, though they usually had me pulled over for speeding, not the tint!) The glass was super easy to change on that car (pop door panel off, two bolts on the glass, rinse and repeat other side.) I could do it for both windows in 15min or so, then pop down to the station and have the ticket written off, and have the old tinted glass back on during lunch :)
I run 35% all the way round the VIII now (not the windshield though.)

Call a police department and ask them to explain any of the laws. They will tell you they can't because laws are all up to interpretation. They will tell you to consult a lawyer if you want any law explained to you. This makes no sense to me because if they are allowed to enforce a law, that means they should be able to explain the interpretation. However this is one of the reasons a person is considered innocent until proven guilty.

If the tint is from an eye doctor to prevent migraine headaches, or any other debilitating reason they have no ground to stand on. In fact if you get a lawyer ballsy enough you can counter-sue.

Cops rarely know what they are talking about when it comes to law. They are taught to be ticket and arresting machines because that is what brings money into the state and secures their job.

It's not deception or lies. Skin cancer is caused by prolonged exposure to sun. Look at the studies of truckers that have skin cancer on their arm that is closest to the window...because of the lack of ultraviolet blocking tint they have been exposed to a life threatening disease. The state nor federal government has the right to impose on your health, or right to ensure your health is maintainable.

Furthermore sun is also damaging to your eyes, so tint lessens the strain on them. Night time driving is also increased because your eyes aren't exposed to extreme light changes (bright lights to then darkness) because the tint regulates the headlights coming into your car.

There's a big difference between deception and reality. Just because you weren't aware of the repercussions of not having tint, doesn't mean your are deceiving by utilizing your new found information.

Btw, I thought I would give a shout out to XLR by posting twice without multi-quoting ;) HAHA
