New sway bar bushings

2000sport do u think u could measure the rear sway bar bushings to see which polyurethane ones we could use?

as soon as I get her in the garage I will... may not be till next week though. its snowing like crazy and my job doesnt give me much time to do anything during the week.

Plus the fiance and I get to go to Disney on Ice tomorrow (ugh) so prolly wont happen tomorrow

lol
whenever u can would b great ! if it happens next week it'll be better for me, otherwise, I will replace the fronts and wait for the rear sizes!

been in chicago the past 2 weeks (without the car)...

I probably wont tackle this until spring since My access to a warm garage is so limited.

I do have to do the wheel hub assembly asap tho... its starting to make some weird noises. ugh

Take care of that !
I was trying to measure them without taking anything apart and its impossible !
AND, to me seems like Im gonna have to unbolt the whole rear end to replace the sbay bushings.

one of my front wheel hub let go right after Xmas with the temp in low teens.
Had a mechanic friend of mine do the job in nice warm garage.

Ive researched and researched and cant find the rears sizes. I just received the fronts from energy suspension.

Sorry to bump an old thread but...

The OEM Lincoln bushings have a split so you can just pop them on and off the sway bar. The Energy polyurethane ones seem solid. How do you put it on? Do you slide it on from the very end?

No there is a split in them. Which ones did you buy?
Haven't bought them yet but I googled the part # 9.5171R and the pictures don't seem to show a split. I have polyurethane bushings on another car and it doesn't seem too flexible either.

They have a split, you will see it when you get it.

I need to do mine as well. I have had the bushings sitting around for a long time... lol

What year is your LS?

couple of tips: Lube the poly ones WELL with the supplied grease and lubeall around the inside diameter WELL. Make SURE you tighten the nuts/bolts that hold the bushing brackets onto the car properly. DONT overtighten or you can strip, and dont undertighten or you will hear knocking and clunking in turns. And when you do this job, both sides of the car have to be in the air at the same time. You'll go through hell if you do one side at a time with the car only jacked up on one side

Yes, I searched which is how I got to this thread and I tried to use the energy suspension website.

I wanna order bushings for an 03 sport, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Are gen 2 sway bar bushings different than gen 1? Will 30mm work with an 03 sport or is it a different size?

So from what I've read, this is what I understand:

ALL sport models (both first and second gen) are 30 mm (1 3/16) - 9-5171R
http://www.jegs.com/i/Energy+Suspension/355/9-5171R/10002/-1

ALL non-sport models (both first and second gen) are 27 mm (1 1/16) - 9-5162R
http://www.jegs.com/i/Energy+Suspension/355/9-5162R/10002/-1

I also noticed that there's a 27 mm (1 1/16) part number: 9-5162G
http://www.jegs.com/i/Energy-Suspension/355/9-5162G/10002/-1
I have no idea what the difference is between this 27 mm and the other 27mm.

ANYONE CARE TO CHIME IN? CONFIRM OR DENY THIS?

You can't replace the front bushings on the '03-'06 LS. They are bonded to the anti-sway bar. You will need to replace the whole assembly.

you might have to cut them off I think, alax7 said something about it somewhere, ask him.

It would seem to be a simple matter of cutting, burning, etc., to remove old rubber prior to installing new poly. Did anyone ever establish a size for first gen Sport rear bushings??
KS

If u find out PLEASE post it on a new thread !

I will be doing mine one of these days, I know I need it. I will be cutting the ones off the sway bar and adding the energy ones in place

Just bought a set of 27mm bushings from Summit. Hope I didn't mess up. There's one annoying problem put to bed!
