I replaced my fuel pump last weekend on my 97 LSC. One of the factory pipes had a flange the other was clamped on so we had to split it a bit to get it off with the air hammer. Since I had to get the small split welded back on, I just decided to drive the car around for a couple days without exhaust after the 3rd cat before I got the car to a shop.

My wife LOVED it. She kept on taking my car and enjoying it with the open pipes.

Only problem was we were dying of the fumes of course. I had the stock exhaust put back on yesterday and my wife hates it now.

I really want to just replace the mufflers at this point since I don't have too much money (lost job recently) and keep the factory pipes.

What are some decent sounding mufflers that are reasonably priced? No glass packs here from what I have read. Also what inlet/outlet/pipe arrangement should I be looking for?

I found a pair of Dynomax Ultra Flo stainless steel mufflers for 135 a pair (used) on Craigslist. They are center inlet/center outlet with 2 1/2 inch pipes.

u want a good sound on the cheap cut the mufflers off and just straight pipe it. I had my 95 like that for years and everyone that ever heard it loved it, including myself. there are tons of mark viii exhaust clips on youtube btw.

I'm tempted to straight pipe it but I think it would be best to have some sort of muffler on there. I just don't want to really antagonize the cops.

I would like to buy those Dynomaxs on craigslist, I just don't know if 2 1/2 center inlet and 2/12 center outlet would be able to work.

i cut mine off.. abit loud...i'm trying to sell some stuff so i can have a shop lay that 2ft of pipe and my stock tips.

The pipes are so long on our cars the behave like they have mufflers anyway. No worries about pissing off the cops, you will be fine.

Hell, the SRT4 dont have mufflers from the factory.

+1 on straight pipes. The previous owner cut the mufflers off of my white 93, and I've never replaced them. They're not that loud. I've never had a problem with the police, and neither has my teenage son.

I chopped them off my 93 and my 96, they sound great IMO-and I never got hassled for it, thats with over 8 years total driving that way.
