so i pulled her out of the garage today because she had 2km left to empty so i drove her(with no headlights or tail lights or turning signals or insurance lolol) to the local esso and i put 30 bucks of premium in her and i start her up and she sounded like a freaking diesel! i even had a guy come up to me when i was just pulling out and say "hey since when did lincoln make a diesel?" i dont get how or who or when or anything sounded fine on the way there, there is no problems what so ever runs fine exhaust is fine just pours a sh!t load of water out the pipe but still good and the minute i put new gas in her she roars like a powerstroke, any ideas fellas?

Im guessing a 1995 or earlier? Also the screen name. Guessing you may have a broken lifter spring thingy. Can make an 4.6L tap, almost like a diesel.

broken lifter spring thingy eh? does autozone carry that? maybe partsource? nah im just kidding lol thanks for the input. i honestly have no idea what you are talking about but who knows maybe it could be that.

Is it smoking. What color smoke blue or black or white

it sat all winter but the oil was changed before it was stored, and it sounds nothing like that, its actually a roar, the smoke is normal coloured. ill see if i can get a vid up in a bit.

if it's smokin' it ain't normal unless you're seafoamin' or it's cold so there ain't no normal colored smoke...blue is oil burning which can be piston rings, black is you're either have the rare diesel Mark VIII or it's running too rich, and white is water which can be leaking head gaskets

oh yeah, and if it's red smoke comin' out then you're smokin' something you're not aware of

Ya, a vid would help. If there isn't a nasty tap-tap-tap from the top of the engine that varies with RPM, then you can rule out lash adjusters.

A roar???

Try and see whereabouts the noise is coming from. (front of engine, exhaust etc.)

it was just a bit cold, plus its one of the first times the car has been ran in i dont know 3-4 months? the roar was like what you hear from a diesel when it accelerates like the exhaust sound, it may be my exhaust it leaks water at the muffler seals.

Ya know,i've had the same thing happen to my mark. But mine only did it when the weather here in florida got down into the 20's and it sat over night. It would make the noise for about 3 mins then stop. Sometimes it would do it,and i'd turn the car off,and turn it right back on and the noise was gone. But i thought i'd read awhile back something about the cam chain tensioner and this same noise. But after mine stops the noise it ok for the rest of the day.
