I spent waaaay to much time trying to find information on registrations of these vehicles last night, and couldn't.

So I went back and looked up the median vehicle age, currently ~9.4 years. It's been going up for a few years, and will probably continue to rise because of the economy.

Then I came across a site claiming the lifespan of a car is about 15 years, or 145k.

Puts our vehicles in perspective, no?

Anyhow, there were ~123k of these made (other site has the exact year by year numbers). Only about 38% of the vehicles on the road are over 10 years old. So using those numbers and a sliding scale up to 38%, I'm thinking that there's probably only around 22-28k Mark VIII's left out there.

Well on our way to classic status.

Now you need to add a modifier: How many of those still on the road would you want to own? Meaning, how many haven't had the crap beat out of them, how many haven't been savaged by a 20 year old, how many aren't dragging the ground, etc.

If what I see here is any indication, that will take that number down by half easily.

Ok math guy.:shifty: I tried to figure this out on my own and failed:confused: horribly. If there were only 202 chamelions made then how many are still on the road and what percentage of marks made does mine hold.

There is a nice chameleon near me 4.6l I want to buy it as my DD, the guy also has a silver first gen with bullet wheels on it.

I've only seen 3 different Gen II's since I bought mine. I have to wonder how many of them are left on the road.

Should be about 76 Chameleons.

That's something like .3%, or 1 for every 289 other Mark VIIIs on the road.

roughly 80 for the chamelion. 30 in respectable shape. I need to find a nice one......

I found a good beater locally today with 200k miles on it. definitely not one to spruce up, but it looks like the 97 is sold.

Edit: There is a chamelion in Easton PA? I want it yesterday!!!!! Looking to bring it home and make it showroom again. Tell me where. I have cash on hand this weekend!

I wish I could find production numbers on my 96 LSC. I bet it was less than 50 with my options and color combo. Ive only seen 2 since ive had mine with the same colors and options. makes me almost wish i had left it stock. almost.........

The guy loves marks too, hes got like 5 parts cars behind his house and 2 really nice marks in his driveway... pm me I can tell you his addy.

Does that number count "Cash For Clunkers"? Sadly a big number of them were put to sleep that way last year. Maybe it's even lower than you think.

I thought that the base MPG was higher than what was necessary to qualify for the cash for clunkers fiasco.

I DO know that there was a GNX turned in under that program.

Edit: Never mind, I checked and they were on the list.

Those numbers make me want to go lay on it, and hold it and comfort it. And a junker chameleon,,,,, I'm appaled. Buy it man [the nice one] and be the other chameleon owner. I am getting lonely in the .3 percentile.:(

I have three, the guy around the corner from me has atleast 5, and across the street from him is another

Yeah dude... sad, very sad... someone on this forum posted a picture last year of a slammed Gen II at a dealership with a HUGE "Cash for clunkers" sign on it or a sign of the price they offered the owner, can't remember. All I know is it was sad to see it just sitting there. Just like that one there were hundreds of Mark's put to sleep that way.

I was looking for parts for another car of mine and came across a 93 that was a 'clunker' car-it had only 35,000 miles on it, I removed the speedometer pod first! The body was still in nice shape and it hadn't been touched except for the headlight pods. I got the ECU, radio, climate control (no broken buttons), the relays for the suspension compressor and the antilock brakes, the intake tube and the engine cover (no broken tabs)-I plan on going back and getting other stuff if it ever stops raining.

I was there for 2 days and feel like a drowned rat.

I'm not sure how many Mark VIII's are remaining but I sure do see a lot of them in the Toronto area. Including mine there are actually three Gen1 Mark's which live in my subdivision of about 150 homes

And although I own 2 Taurus SHO's, the ratio of Mark VIII's to SHO's I see on the road has to be over 50/1

My mom used to have an SHO, it got put to sleep by a drunk driver... I know of about 15 marks around the central Texas area still running
I've heard that the blue/blue is a rare combo... Anyone know about how many were produced ?
