Can't hear Fuel Pump

My 95 LSC won't start and when I turn the key on I don't hear the fuel pump. I had just fulled up. Any takers.
 
first in your trunk on the left side there's a little carpet door where your air ride switch is and also your fuel cut off switch which have a red button...push that red button and see if it works
 
Connect a gauge to the shrader valve and turn the key to see if you are getting any pressure.

How did you go about filling it up? The purge valve could be messed up if you kept on and kept on filling it.
 
I didn't do anything different when filling up the gas tank. And I didn't overflow it. Also, I pushed on the fuel rail valve with the key on and no pressure. Usually gas pours out of it.
 
I am stranded and going to have to get a tow going back to the house. Any other quick check I should make?
 
I don't know who around you would stock that pump but it may be easier to shoot for an AZ replacement. I remember a while back, you had a problem with that tank leaking from one of the hoses that had the black clip on it. You might want to check to make sure the pump is plugged in and making a good connection but again, it could just be the relay. Don't pull a pump without checking the relay first.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and clear the computer. Maybe it's just having one of it's moments and it may reset something but doubtful. Ya never know with these cars.
 
That pump only lasting you for 2 1/2 months isn't right. If that's the case, you might be better off with an AZ pump but again, check the relay. Hard to believe that pump has went out this quick.
 
You are correct, I did have a tank/clip problem and that was solved by replacing both clips with new ones. The car has ran fine up until today. I have driven with the 255 Walbron for almost one hundred thousand miles. However nothing last forever. I am going back to the car now and see if it will start sometimes you never know.

Well, I just thought I would tap and knock on the fuel tank to see if I could something to work and sure enough the car started. I am going to pickup a fuel pressure gage and check the fuel pressure, what should the pressure read? I remember this kind of nosense happen in my Mustang and it ended up needing a new pump but like you said you never know about these cars.

Let me know your thoughts.

Didn't know it had been in there that long. I thought you had just put it in at the end of December but if it has that many miles on it, then it could be going bad but I think the pressure should be at least in the 30's and up to around 42 psi but not positive on the exact pressure for that pump. 75K to 150K and a pump could fail.
 
Good point, I am going to test the pressure and see were it at. Back in Decermber the only problem were the clips because we were looking for a leak only and the car has been running well. Everytime I turn the key on the pump pushed out gas and we could here it. I got the car home and I am going to get some of this gas out so I can drop thetank and look at the wires and check all of the connections. Thanks for all you help. I will get back to you after I test everything.
 
if i remember correctly, its the relay closest to the firewall..swap that one with the 3rd from firewall ( horn relay) then honk your horn :) you can also seperate the line to fuel filter behind right front wheel and turn key, should put a nice puddle on the ground..if you need a pump, shoot me a pm fast, im heading back to the salvage yard tomorrow, ill jerk one out and send it to ya for my cost and shipping, id figure $20 would cover it

stick your leg under there a give it a good solid kick in the forward 1/3 of the tank on the passenger side...

you were low on fuel and when you turned off the key it overheated a spot in the winding, sorta welding itself together.

at what fuel level do you usually "get gas/fill it up"?

how many days do you drive it at 1/4 tank or below?

I have gotten 3 different cars to their respective homes using just this method. If you can whack on the tank with a rubber mallet and the car starts, it's the fuel pump no two ways about it.

how many miles are on your car??

if you are between 75k-150K you are right in the "replace fuel pump" window.

skip all that trouble you are thinking about and mentally and financially prepare your self for a fuel pump replacement.

"the kick it" method confirms your electric pump has bad/scorched windings..

my first pump died at 150K at 300K i replaced it again
after awhile, you begin to notice a pattern with failures...lol

no test, no pressure gauge needed
its the pump

been there done that a half a dozen times...
 
I have driven the car for almost 100,000 miles with the same fuel pump in it. I usually fill my tank between 1/4 to half. I am not fooling myself that I don't need a new FP but I would like to check to see what the fuel pressure is. I have been looking at the Summit site for a 96-98 255 Walbro, that is what I have in it now.
 
if its at 189K and you put nearly 100K on the replacement pump...

dont you see a pattern forming?

if my car dies, due to the pump not running...a pressure test isnt going to tell you anything.

the pump probably makes WONDERFUL presuure..."when it runs".
You turned the key...it didnt start..what do you think a gauge would have said?

WHO CARES what the gauge says (probably zero) but even if not. tha fact of the matter is....the pump didnt run when you twisted the little metal thing
