i searched awhile to no avail. i have recently replaced my hydraulic cooling fan with a flex-a-lite electric fan. i looped the hydraulic line to the pump to keep it lubricated but i want to remove the pump altogether. in the diagram below i want to remove the hydraulic pump (#1) and the idler pulley (#2). i want to run the belt directly form the alternator (#9) to the water pump (#3) but the belt looks like it will be very close to the idler pulley (#8). is that how the belt is routed on the 2nd gen? i was reading quiks SCLS thread and it lookes like he routed his belt from the alternator directly to the water pump (post 76). i have also considered purchasing a pulley to replace the idler pulley (#2) with the ribs in it but not sure how easy that'll be....

I think your only option is to replace #2 with a ribbed pully, or its going to hit #8. Can the pully from another drive belt tensioner #6 be used?

exactly what i was thinkin about the tensioner pulley but im not sure about that because the idler pulley #2 mounts with a small but long bolt with a plastic race guide (?), and there is a protruding ring cast into the block under the idler that may be a problem. its an odd pulley, hollow in the back. i should have took pics when i had it apart but i had to get it put back together fast. i have another project planned in the next few days so i'll have an excuse to take it off again and measure some things more precisely

yes the Gen2 is missing #1 and #2 - however the water pump pulley itself is smaller as well. the pic is a little off - as far as the absolute position of the pulleys to one-another.

Quik, ive been reading the SC thread and my mind is exploding with info overload so i dont remember if you changed water pumps?..... yours is a gen1 like mine and your diagram (post 76) looks like your belt goes from your alternator to the water pump and clears the #8 idler. is this correct? have you changed the alternator positioning or anything else? i know i can find out if this will work on my own it's just cold in the garage this time of year and im looking to cheat

cool thanks joegr, im gonna take some things apart and physically see if the belt is gonna clear the idler pully if i route the belt from the alternator to the water pump. i have to do that to measure for a new belt anyway. maybe this sunday.

Woah !!

What happened? HOW DID I GET ON THIS "WARMED OVER TAURUS SITE". I'm a MARK V111 GUY. Like RAY STEVENS says HE'S EVERYWHERE,,HE'S EVERYWHERE speaking of SANTA CLAUSE. Like "I SAY" about LS's THEY'RE EVERYWHERE,,THEY'RE EVERYWHERE.

LOL..... wtf.. You must be thinking of the Lincoln Continental...

I must confess !!

I was on this site about a year earlier than it says. I had to change my user name because I was using initials that spelled out my real name and all my old girlfriends were finding me. LIKE SEAN CONNERY with BLUE EYES.

Yea, you can never be to carefull. Now you got the Austin Powers MOJO thing going, as long as your name isn't Mike Myers you should be good. Unless you have a extremely hairy chest.

Taurus = front wheel drive platform (lately, a Volvo one I think.)
LS = rear wheel drive platform (a Jaguar one).

The MKS is a Taurus, but the LS is not. Get over it.
