I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to get my tune onto my programmer. I got the program (updater) installed to my computer however it doesn't recognize my tuner nor will it find the tune I downloaded. Is it because I have Vista that these issues?

After TWO f'n hours scouring SCT's website and multiple forums I came up empty handed. Nothing better than wasting the little time I do have to come up with zero conclusions. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

what version of the software are you running?

is it advantage 2.9, 3.0 or are you running extreme tune?

if its extreme tune what version is it?

lastly, power up your xcal2 and tell me what firmware version it has

What version of Vista is it? Home, Business...?

Is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

How did you install your program? When you installed it, did you right click on it and Run as Administrator? Some times if you don't, the program won't install properly.

I run into this stuff at work occasionally. I don't have a good opinion of Vista.:D

It's an Xcal3
Version 1.2.111
tune version 1.2.1

It doesn't say whether it's extreme.

welp...the xcal3 part answered all my questions..

the new sct stuff that was "rushed to market" is full of bugs

i've tried to steer folks away from the x3's..due to bs bugs

funny thing, is..(you wont think so) ALL the old sct stuff works fine with vista, and vista wasn't even thought of when the old sct stuff was created.

but..the new stuff... doesnt play well with vista..and I think thats funny.

of course it's not funny to you..and I understand that.

who did you get the x3 from, they are the ones that should be supporting you.
they made the profit...make them make it work

on the sct proracer forum(you can only access after buying the prp software) there are several stickies with all the hoops you have to jump thru to get their new stuff to work with vista.

sorry to say i cant help you.

if you had avd 2.9 or adv 3.0 an x2 or extreme tune you'd be fixed RIGHT NOW

AND run it in COMPATIBILITY MODE and disable desktop composition AND user account control..

there are several other sct suggested fixes, including allowing sct to log into your machine and fix it...
it ALL sucks

i've got both adv 2.9, and 3.0 on this vista laptop.
2.9 just works
3.0 which is more robust, is kinda flakey at times

all in all.. the old works, the new sucks
it sucks but it IS what it is.

nah extreme tune is for the tried and true trusted and functioning xcal2s

you've probably got Liveload, that is just a tool to push a tune to the device...and they even screwd up the most basic function..loading the tune

Got it to work. There aren't any clear and concise directions on how to work it. I kept trying different options and eventually it just worked. I then went, hooked it up to the car and uploaded it.

Strange thing is I thought it required you to go back to stock first, but instead it just uploaded the new software and now my CEL is gone. We'll see how long that lasts though.

It was on as soon as the cats were gutted and threw rich & lean codes for both o2's. Then at idle it was jumping up and down by 500rpms at idle...almost like a surging. Also sporadically when I would hit the gas it was if there was 15% power and like it just wanted to try and stall out.

I don't know if any of these issues are gone yet as I haven't test drove it after uploading the new software into the computer, but I'll find out tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys.

XLR I tried to find someone to sell me an Xcal 2 but SCT themselves told me if I bought it they wouldn't support it anymore, plus no one was selling them I could find new.

Can someone tell me the software or where to download it for the SCT tuner. I have one but no other information on it...

there are no new ones.

but glad you got yours sorted out

nah, only return to stock if you take your car to dealer.
or if you have a problem, otherwise it just overwrites the old with the new

have you messed with the datalogging?

there are only 6 differnt "sct tuners", your gonna have to provide more info...

I'm trying to figure out how to do that, but their directions are anything but stellar. I've got a bit of a rage issue ;) so I need to muster up the patience to try and tackle that. I nearly had a heart attack trying to fix this tonight. Man I wish my body didn't react so furiously to such inane things.

take small steps, get the file to the car..then worry about datalogging

Xcalibrator

Where did you get it?

and there are 5 versions of Xcals for ford.

is it a small box with only LEDS and buttons?
Or is it a larger handheld with a display.

HOLY :q:q:q:q! My tune was corrupted so my Car didn't shift, went all the way to 7k rpms, and then my electrical system shut down! Everything including my computer in the center console went blank. Then it came back on had all kinds of weird errors saying check charging system, gear data error etc. Also the Brake light came on, the battery light, the check engine light. If that wasn't bad enough the "P,R,N,D,1,2" between the rpms and speedo no longer illuminated and my turn signals didn't work.

What the hell happened?!

you never asked who you got the device or the tune file from so its anybodies guess as to what the problem is.

you better pray you didnt "shop by price alone" and go with RPMoutlet or something like that.

with that said..
cars noy making the 1-2 shift isnt uncommon and easily fixed.
was the device plugged in when this happened?

were you datalogging when this happened?

i had my car do goofy stuff when i unplugged the x-2 while the datalog was running, it did alot of what you described, but i wasnt WOT at the time

Just a guess, but thinking the whole file didn't get upload, or it got corrupted.

a corrupted file would also likely cause a no start condition as well.

there are two seperate issues at hand here

1 is a rudimentary tuning mistake with the commanded WOT 1-2 shift

What the hell happened?!

my first guess is the obd2 connection wiggled or you brushed it with your foot..and pissed off the scp network.

you probably got "fuel flow data error" too

the prnd21 missing means the scil couldnt talk over the scp network either.

sell/return that crappy x3

I'll find you a device THAT WORKS...

it might not be "NEW" but the damned thing works on your car.

when your first getting started tuning these very complicated cars, the last thing you need is a hardware issue causing something dumb to happen.

THIS is exactly why I steer folks away from the NEW X-3/Livewire/Touchscreen BS.

these new devices were brought to market after ford increased the PCM size in the newer cars, SCT had to scramble to support these new cars..and our OLD decrepit platforms aren't important enough for them to "bother with".

You'd be better served, and happier in the long run getting a tuning device that was made/designed to communicate with your car.

unless you want to continue to "beta test" these new devices...myself..as I said will stick with the tried, true, tested and trustworthy X-2.

I couldn't give a ratazz if SCT "supports it" as they told you...
"I" support "ME"..and since the X-2's WORK.. no need to bother calling florida.

See what I'm saying here?
