Those Sylvania Bulbs

Well bright on a Gen I Mark VIII all depends on what is left of the reflective material which is the major problem with the headlights. Unless the light reflects it not going to improve your vision no matter what you put in or do to the lenses.

marginal improvement if any...as mespock says, depends greatly on the condition of the reflector

I'll tell you one thing, if you're talking about silverstars they're f'g JUNK. You have to buy them in a set, and one is always burning out in about 3 months. So in order to replace the one, you have to buy two.

I realize you're supposed to change both at the same time. But I went through 3 sets before I gave up.

Brighter? Yes. Worth the money? Hell no.

And no, I never touch the bulb with my fingers, ever.

Ya. I use my lights every day. Going on a year or two with my HIDS.

You can buy them individually.

I just replaced the bulbs in my Crown Vic with Silverstar Ultras, one of the old ones was a Silverstar manufactured in 2004.

To see if they're actually 'brighter' than a standard bulb I threw in a commercial-boxed generic 9007, and the SS Ultra was indeed noticeably brighter when looking at the car from in front of it. From inside the car it was still noticeable, but barely.

Now, on a Gen 1 Mark, I'd just do HIDs. But on my Vic I didn't want to try it in the big ass halogen housings, nor did I want to lose the 'cop car' look at night (which is half the fun of owning that car in the first place.)

I had a set of Silverstars in my wife's old '06 Elantra and they burned out in a month and a half at the same time while the wife was driving. I went back to regular bulbs and didn't have another problem.

i put them in the old lady's GTP and they made a huge difference.....i have them in my 75 grand prix (about 3 years now) and they made a huge diff too.....all of my marks have them low and high beams (helps when you found a guy at carlisle selling sets for $3) I like them.

You can find them online for like $15 or less. I have them in the highs on the LS. They haven't burnt out yet but they get so little use. There seems to be about 50/50 between people that have them burn out very quickly and those that are fine. $15 a pair is worth it to me if they last as a normal bulb should. If I was replacing them every three months either stick with normal halogens or go with an HID kit. After driving cars with HIDs either factory or aftermarket kits it's hard to go back though.

Doesn't matter what you put in a Gen 1 Mark VIII.
You should strap some Haitians to the hood with lanterns if you want to see the road better.

Otherwise, do the HID install.
Or fog lights in or under the grill.
