I recently brought a woodgrain shift knob to replace the original black leather one in my 2004 Lincoln LS. Does any one know how I take the old one off and place the new one on?

Push the bottom black plastic piece down and you will see (2) screws holding the knob to the shaft.

Either of the answers listed above are correct. I prefer the first one though.

Thanks for the assistance. I actually got to the part where the screws are. After taking out the screws I tried to remove knob and there was some resistance. Is there a specific way to take knob off after removing screws. I just don't want to force and mess up anything. Thank you.

Put the shifter in an upright position, then pull straight up, it can takes some force but will release.

Don't smack yourslf in the face when ur pulling. Get a black eye out of it.

So there's this button on the top tool bar right.... it says search. All you have to do is click it and then type a question in the box and answers magically appear! You should try it, you just might be amazed.

Thank you to all the ones who give such great useful information on this site for those of us who aren't the greatest of mechanics. For the rest of you, ah...there are two great buttons on the site, the reply button, if you know what you are talking about or the logoff button if your bored and your significate other hasn't made it yet for you to insult. Have a great day.

THERE'S ALSO THE IGNORE BUTTON

Do you have pictures of it's condition? I may be in the market for a black leather shift knob...

I actually did read the postings, but must have missed that first line that included color and year.
It will never happen again.

I have both. The wood one is installed right now. Dunno which I like better. The wood one is way more expensive, although I got mine for free :D

I must have forgotten my baby spoon that day. I was always told to leave it at home for the kids.

Oh yeah and my signifigant other, [my wife] could remove a SHIFT knob on her own, unlike your signifigant other [your hands].
