Stay Gen 1, or geat Gen 2

I also like the hood sprinklers on the first gen and also the LS letters on the sides on 2000 and 2001 models. In the inside the window switches and better on first gen. Oh yea the rest is pretty much crap on both generations :)
 
Yea the first gen has those rare 6 speed jag trannys vs the 2nd gen 4 speed from the ford expedition. Thats what u get 2nd gen owners!
 
Yes I do have a unmodded ls. Also is there really a 4 speed tranny in the 03 and up. But I read the 0 to 60 is .7 faster and the 1/4 mile is also faster on the 0e

No, that was sarcasm for certain folks. All LSes have a 5-speed transmission; very few of those are manual 5-speeds.

This has been discussed before, but the auto LS actually has two transmissions; a 3-speed backed by an overdrive unit. So the auto LS actually has a 6-speed trans; each of the 3 gears can be overdriven. The reason it isn't a six-speed is (IIRC) 2nd and 3rd would be so close as one to be useless. I don't remember which, but one shift (3-4?) is very difficult because both units (the 3-speed and the overdrive) are shifting simultaneously.
 
What you wanna do? Pay $5000 for a car that's worth over $40,000 new.

It's not 15 year old Mark that you can pick them up for a grand or two.

Not when you consider they were $47 to over $50K new. Besides, the C4C program took a considerable amount of used cars off the market. The value of all used cars went up.

as previously posted ..the sequence is a little different.................



The transmission in the LS is really two transmissions in one housing. There is a two speed in front and a three speed in back.

First gear has both the front and rear transmissions in low gear.

Second gear shifts the front transmission to high and leaves the rear transmission in low.

Third shifts the front transmission back to low and the rear to second.

Fourth leaves the front in low and the rear shifts to high. Both front and rear are now in 1:1 ratio.

Fifth shifts the front to high again and leaves the rear in high.

From the above you can see that changing the overdrive ratio (the front transmission) affects second and fifth gears. Changing the rear three speed ratios will change all the ratios except fourth and fifth.

Having all the gears in mesh all the time does affect the efficiency, but not all that much. It is the same for almost all automatic transmissions.

A bigger effect on efficiency is bands vs. clutches. Bands release with less drag than clutches, so a transmission that has more bands and less clutches is more efficient. This transmission replaces three clutches with bands and is near the top in the industry for efficiency.

Dont know for sure. I will be getting some numbers hopefully when I get mine on the dyno in a few weeks. But according to the sct website. somwhere around 15 rwhp.
