How should I go about getting rid of this and what supplies do I need to seal the hole?

Thats the anti-baffle transverse air pressure equalizer. Keeping it there adds 10HP! :D

oh really i never knew that. i seen some pictures of other cars without it and i know if you send your intake tube to lincoln motorsport they will get rid of it for you, so i figured id do it but i guess ill keep it. wont getting rid of it give a better air flow?

Honestly, I would keep that there because it helps hide some of the ugly under it. I have mine capped off just like you do but left the other piece. I was going to get one from Jamie but decided to leave it as is. I might send him my extra one so he can remove the capped off part and smooth that down after filling it but I'll want the other to be left on it. It's not hurting anything being there.

alright ill just leave it then. if i ever do get rid of it ill just send it out to get done so it looks good or ill buy one from someone.

If you do have it done, just send it to Jamie and he'll hook it up nice for you. Might want to find one from your local yard to use because he would keep yours for at least a week or so, not including shipping time.

IT IS THE WHAT?????

Max

The technical term is "hiemholtz resonator".

it's to prevent the compressed column of intake air from springing backwards thru the intake when the intake valve closed.

when you remove them the "air" compresses and rebounds against the closed intake valve and causes what is called a "standing pressure wave" to travel backwards thru the intake and corrupting the maf signal.

One of those, the larger or the smaller one is for when IMRC are open and the other is for when the IMRC's are closed, since the intake track length changes depending on the position of the IMRC's.

Common misconception is that they are merlely "silencers" and that is a flawed conception.

Just like EGR valves people remove them for "asthetic" reasons, and don't realize they are hurting both performance AND driveabilty for a purely "asthetic" reason.

Tommy,

Why does a Gen II intake tube lack these? I have a Gen II intake tube and unlike the Cobra tube I had, there is no spot to attach these. The Cobra had a squarish one that attached.

Because they are not needed.
