Need Help With Speakers

Hey everyone,
i have a 01 Lincoln LS and some reason the two small speakers on the side off the dash are not working. I was also was able to take one speaker out and i got no voltage. Can someone help me possible get this dash apart.This is my first car
 
If you are talking about the speakers on the side of the center console they are ambient sound, and need to be set through the radio menu. Speakers are not driven by voltage so you will not see a response on a volt meter. Check your owners manual on radio operation should give you some insight, if you don't have a manual you can down load from TECH ARTICLES at the top of the page.
 
they suck anyway. if you plan on upgradin ur audio those things aren't gonna add :q:q:q:q to ur soundstage so do urself a favor and forget about em.
 
yes i do plan on upgrading them, but for me to upgrade them, i perfer having them atleasted wired up, also can anyone tell me the size of the speakers in the doors, and suggest some to me
 
ooh man. from experience you arent even gonna want them wired. the only speakers that would fit right are the stock speakers. no other speakers will really fit right even a 3.5 inch speaker i tried everything. even if you do manage to get a speaker to fit right oyu are going to have to make find a way to screw em in since you will have to remove the bracket that the stock speakers fit in. so you will have to start doin some kind of fiberglassing or sunthin. n then the 3.5 speakers will only have a 35 watt rms rating and even with bass blockers you are goin to eventualy blow them when runnin them along the 6x8 or 6.5 inch components (what i recommend) . so do yourself a favor n just disconnect them. if you dont take my advice....well...good luck. also the door speakers are 6 x 8 and the rear deck speakers are 6 x 9s. get some decent components on the doors like some polk audio boston acoustics re audio memphis audio morel focal or hertz to name a few and if you want get some rear fills for the 6x9s like polk audio mmc690 but its not really necessary if you have a good fornt stage. get a nice 4 channel amp and run the front 2 channels on the amp witht he 4 door speakers to get a 2 ohm load and draw more power from the amp and use the remaining amp channels to drive the rear deck speakers when you have them on (sound better off)
 
the after market radio has to be wired in correctly to the amp that drives them for them to work. does your factory subs work? the wires are in the same plug. however since your aftermarket radio does not have the DSP built in to properly use them, i would just leave them as is
 
By far, the majority of aftermarket head units wont drive those center console speakers without using an additional, separate amp

not true, there is already an amp in the car, you just need to interface with it just like you have to do with the factory subs and there amp.

the issue is that there are ment for sound effects only and most aftermarket radios dont have the same kind of DSP feature
 
Oh ok well the car doesn't have speaKer in the rear deck and it also doesn't have a sub of amp. What do I. Do now
 
leave it the way it is, or take it apart and hook it up,

wait a minute, you can get the sound system with the DSP and effect speakers and no sub? weird, haven't seen that combo yet.

there should be three plugs that plug into the factory radio, a big one with a few wires in it, a med sized one full of wires, and a small 8 pin plug full of wires.

the largest and smallest plugs should not be plugged into anything, the med is the main radio harness, the smallest one is the plug for the factory amps signal in and turn on wires, you can either solder an RCA plug into the proper wires(kinda of advanced for a audio rookie) or you can buy a harness that has the plug with RCA's already on it, you will also probably need a 1450 ohm resistor to keep it from "popping" when it turns on and off.

And yes I got the car used and all it has is and alpine headunit. No rear deck speakers, no factory subs or amp or anything aftermarket.
 
if you bought it used and there arent any rear deck speakers, chances are that the previous owner disconnected them when he did his install n e way, so thats probably why you arent gettin any sound from them. so ur not gonna b able to get sound from them now with the alpine headunit.

Digital Sound Processor, it uses time delays and echo's to make the audio sound like its in a live venue,

wait do you have a aftermarket alpine or the factory alpine headunit?

Yes, and you can see that on an oscilloscope, but at low levels (such as the console speakers would always be) you won't see anything meaningful on a voltmeter, especially if it is a digital one.
 
Oh k. So I have no sub.no amp.no rear deck speakers.the passenger front door speaker don't work as well as the center console speaker don't work(systems hows weak don't it). What do you guys think I should get first. And money is a little low right now
 
I just used one of the speakers to make a pattern on ABS plastic, and mounted 1" tweeters in there to replace the speakers, and it made a huge difference. If some of you speakers aren't working take them out, and get an ohms reading from them. If you cant do that when you have them out just hook them up directly behind the radio, and see if they play there. If they do then there is a wiring problem some where.

you are in over your head, I suggest you stop and have someone who knows what they are doing or you will cause more grief than it is worth.
 
well i didnt want to start a new thread for this, but i just have two 10'' inch subwoofers and a xplod amp. Can you guys spead to tips on to me about setting it up and placement of amp, etc.
 
well, you dont have tooo many choices.....subs have to go in the trunk obviously, but you might either mount the amp on the seat or make a amp board and put them on the sides of the trunk....are you wiring this urself, because if you are having trouble deciding the location i really dont think you should be doin this type of job....
 
Well my friend is helping me who is a specialist.I was just hoping to get some tips from the people that already have done this.
 
I have an aftermarket Alpine radio

1)I put Infinity Kappa 3 1/2 in the center console sides, Ran new speaker wires to them from radio, used stock grille over them, had to remove A/C-heat duct that runs to rear console vents
2) Most people mount the amp on the rear of the back seats that faces into the trunk
3) I put Infinity Kappa 6X9's in my rear deck and ran new wires to my radio
4) Changes all 4 door speakers to Infinity Kappa's I believe 5X7, ran wiring to Alpine 4 channel amp
5) Mounted Kicker Tweeters in my A-Pillar trims and ran wires to radio
6) Have JL 10's and JL 500/1 amp

I am happy with the sound!!! Nothing overpowering, but has plenty of sound and thump.
