so today i go my radio in with new screen an ended up cracking it so that was a waste and find out my head gaskets are leaking. beens i have an 03 i figured theyd be shorting out the plugs and all that. well go in and they say nothings getting into my plugs, their fine so its not covered under warrenty itll be 695 for the gaskets to be changed and 89 for diagnostic nd i said hell no. leave it outside and ill pick it up soon. aint that bs that because its not leaking into the plugs jus everywere else that they wont change it. huh horrible day, just ranting

I've never heard of head gasket problems on an LS, and $700 sounds really cheap for head gasket replacement. Are you sure that it's not the valve cover gaskets, which are a common problem?

If it is the valve cover gaskets, and you have less than 100K miles, you are completely covered by Ford factory warranty. Point out Customer Satisfaction Program 07M07 to the dealer.

change gaskets yourself

change the gaskets yourself, it's a fun and easy afternoon project. I think I spent about $100 for all the gaskets plus a bunch of other stuff.
 
i meant valve gaskets. yes i told them about he program and they said only if oil or water is getting into the plug. they said all my plug tested fine in their little screeners so its not covered to hange gaskets for free unless its getting into the plug. is this true. id be willing to bet they prll didnt even check all the plugs, just did their scan test

The program letter is not %100 clear on if there has to be oil in the wells for them to replace the gaskets, but that was the intent of the program. Even if the first dealer entered your attempt into OASIS, the second dealer will just assume that the first one missed the oil.

this is complete bs. yea their saying even though thats the intent of the program, but if oil has not seeped into it, then they will not replace the gaskets. how can i even prove that theirs oil in their because they could come back and say they tested fine even though I know there would be oil in there because i poured it myself but i def couldnt say that.
 
well i really have the time and tools to do it at the moment thats the problem. i think i have a guy that will do it for like 300 or 350 but still the intent is because the valve cover gaskets are leaky, but just because it hasn't leaked into the boot to short it out its not covered wtf.

It's mostly a matter of finding the right dealer. They get paid by Ford to do the work, so they will have some desire to agree with you and do it. The catch is that they make more money from doing non-warranty work than they do from warranty work. If they are filled with non-warranty work, then warranty work will be unattractive to them. On the other hand, if they don't have enough work to fill the bays...

I agree about the non-sense of whats not covered and when. The 06's aren't covered for coil issues just because they weren't out of normal warranty when this program was last modified. There probably won't be enough 06 owners to get them to extend the program to them. They're done with the LS, and no longer concerned about it.
 
its still bs tho becaue their comparing apples to apples. they said none of the coils and that are failing the stress test and scanner that they put it through so its not their fault the valve covers are leaking. but its apples to apples because I can tell that the coils and that arent running 100 percent because my symptoms are the same just obviously not bad enough to come up. but it still comes back to the fact that the valve gaskets can be faulty.
 
Take couple cop's out pour little used oil down there then bring in. Now you have oil in wells.

I'm not disagreeing with anything said, however you should be aware that many LS coils fail with no oil or water contamination. Ford now admits that there is a problem with the epoxy inside the coils. I think that the oil (which clearly didn't help anything) was incorrectly blamed for many of the coil failures.
My 04 had four coil failures under warranty, and my gaskets have no leaks. I can tell that one or more coils are now on their way out. I'm past 100K miles, so I think that I will just order eight coils and replace them all.
 
is there any particular plugs that each side valve cover gasket would go to. hench if the left side was leaing it would only short out this # boot etc. an would i need t kinda tear a boot or something to make it not look lik i purposly did it

I wouldn't tear any of the boots, it would be too easy to tell that you had done it. You can pick any of the plug wells for oil. Where the gaskets fail first is random, it's not a matter of one draining to the next, they are all separate seals. I wonder if anyone here has kept some known failed coils that they could volunteer to your cause?
 
yea if anyone did to put in to throw a code would be great. but i didnt kno if the oil was slightly diff from 2 diff cars or that the boot isnt damaged they would figure it out an cause problems

I think that you may be giving the average dealer technician more credit than is due. More than once, I've had to point out the correct procedure to use in the factory manual for a repair.
In any event, the worst that can happen is that you waste some time.
 
that is true, due to this being my DD and not having the time or alot of the tools to get this done quick i might have a friend do it for like 300 bucks and replace my gaskets. sucks but better than fords bs but if anyone can give me a bad coil that I could put some oil on, thatd be great and save me the money.
 
i have a quick question. I know the car takes 5-20 but I also have a crap load of 5-30 on the garage. beens i have a small leak in my head gaskets and it wont be fixed for alittle while, im just going to keep adding alittle oil and checking it everyday and hardly drive, just only when I have to. would that oil be fine to throw in there beens its just going to eventually leak out after acouple times driving or even though its just going to leak out would it be better to stick to only 5-20. thanks
 
I was waiting for that reply. LOL I didn't want to type all the "I would not do this and its wrong disclaimer" The devil made me say it. I watched Animal House other night if you remember scene i'm talking about.
 
well my only worry is I dont want to end up putting some oil in the one of the plugs and coils and cause it to throw a code and then get to the dealer and them kind of expect it has been done up on purpose and this doesnt look like it should for this kind of problem and then have to pay for that to be fixed as well you know what i mean
 
Here's another vote for pouring some used oil into the plug chambers. Screw the dealer........as the old saying goes, "turnabout is fair play." Pull some coils and squirt some oil into the boots too.

I've really been thinking about adding some oil to make them short lol.. Was just talking about it yesterday...

I already have plenty of oil in over half of my plug wells, The COPs seem to be holding out just fine, but it still drives me crazy that VCG's leak.

I took my LS in after I got the Suburban / beater.. They told me the same thing, after I pointed out the extended warranty. You think the bastards would want to do warranty work. They also said they wont fix my leaking windshield wiper bracket seal thing because the water has not caused any damage to the coils YET.. Freaking lame... how about fix the defect before they cause more expensive problems...

I should have someone with bad coils send me thiers so I can swap them out and go back and say "oh my.... what could have caused this" dealer = dumbass's
