99-04 cobra center section

Fyi the cobra went to 31 spline in 01 and
with shafts its a direct bolt in I should know
And I do

I want to make 100% sure of what you guys are saying

So the stock OEM 2003 -2004 Ford Mustang Cobra Half shafts are a direct drop in to a Gen2 (Sorry I don't care about you Gen 1'ers LOL).

So there is no need for a Hub or rear end change.

Can we confirm this? because I have a set of 03 cobra shafts sitting in the garage right now but was always told they had the wrong spline and were the wrong size.

Yes it will phreak.

BUT, I just realized something. The pinion flange is different. You will either need to swap the VIII flange to the cobra pumpkin or buy the terminator dravshaft flange. IF you buy a driveshaft flange, you will need a 1350/1330 conversion U-Joint.

removing the pinion flange might not be a big deal IF done carefully.

rule IS when you loosen the pinion nut, it's junk..and you should replace the crush sleeve as well.

BUT.. I did this on my SVO mustang when I broke the pinion flange.
Carefully loosened the pinion nut, once loosened do NOT move any of the internals...

swap the flange and put a new pinion nut on.

I didn't replace the pinion nut the first time and within 500 miles it started vibrating.

So I took the pinion nut and placed it sideways in a vice and gave it a good hard squeeze and it went back to being a "locking nut" again.

BUT I would suggest a new pinion nut... to be on the safe side.

All I want to do is take the stock Mark VIII axles out and swap in my cobras ... Uggh. But then again I would need to go through the pile of parts that are piled up in the garage to find them. Dont know which one is more work.

if the inner splines are the 31 spline (01-04) you need a 31 spline side gears
if you have the shafts out of an earlier irs then they will go right in but the mark viii 28 spline half shafts are better than the 28 spline cobra ones
