where is the tensioner pulley located? quick help...in the middle of a job...

ok loosening up the nut and it loosened the belt, put it on the alternator then there wasnt enough belt for the one where the loosened bolt was, it fell off..now wont reach lol

so guess we gotta loosen it little by little so it wont slip off to get it back on that end

ahhhh, wish i was done

All you do is put your 1/2" drive in the square slot to pivot the tensioner, you don't remove the bolt.
 
I've always used a socket on a 1/2" breaker bar on the pulley bolt to release the tensioner arm. It's easier to get to on some cars that way. Just me.
 
ok i know you elitists types are going to get a LAUGH out of this one. still aint quite done the job, gave up last night at 2am cuz i couldnt get the damn tensioner arm thing back in the right spot. it has these 2 steel nipples coming out from it and the damn thing was so close but just wouldnt quite rotate right.

had to give up and call it a night and am about to try again in a little bit today.

once i took the engine cover off and could see better, yeah the tensioner arm pulley was pretty easy to see, but the pain was lining it back up when the nipples came out of the hole, ahhhhh hoping they go in easily this time.

thanks to those of you that were helpful last night, appreciate it.

so angry that its not done yet, got caught up on something so simple.

anyone had it come completely out and had to line it back up? not looking forward to going back in that garage. lol

you shouldn't have removed it, you easily can undo the tension on the belt by moving that bolt a small turn, it was designed like that

if you took something off, put it back the way you took it off, and then do it the other way
 
if it came all the way off, putting it back on might not be as easy as taking it off, there has to be some type of spring to give it the tension, but really i'm just guessing as i have never taken one off before
 
Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner
Removal and Installation

1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to Accessory Drive Belt in this section.

2. Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt tensioner.
* To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

yeah if i put something down in the engine i can shift it to the right, pulling it back toward me if i stand on the drivers side, probably have to do something like that and have someone under the car til those steel nipples line back up in the holes

the nipple is at the starting edge of the hole, it needs to be shifted to the right just a little, but doing that is easier said then done

you live and you learn, after this project, you should be able to strip your LS down and put it back together haha:D
 
hahaha, not quite...but i did learn a lot more then i have known before.

i usually do nothing myself, just take it right to the shop...but i decided to save some money and give it a try. i figured alternator, aint gonna be that bad...but of course its all the way underneath the car instead of somewhere more easily reachable lol

then the damn electrical plug was stuck, took 3 different people to finally pull it out...that thing was IN there, and i dont know why it was so hard to get out, just a damn electrical 3 pronged plug

im putting off putting that tensioner back on right now, but i know im going to have to try soon, i hope it goes right on so i can be done with this damn thing lol

the manual says it goes on the way it comes off,

the electrical plugs may require a screwdriver to pop a clip to slide it out

really wasnt even any room for the screwdriver as close as it was to the housing...my step dad finally got that thing off with brute force, pushing it with his finger and pulling it off


all these simple little things made this job a damn nightmare

it felt like it was super glued in
