I was bored and was messing with the car. Looked over at the mcclaren grill and decided to drill holes in where the 4 pins go into the car. Its the only thing I didnt like about the grill, but that takes care of it. This one isn't mine, just trying to show the 4 spots I'm talking about. I hope I'm not the first to think if this but I have seen a few mclaren grills with these on there

do some searching. I've seen a couple of instances where I think folks have somehow used paint to reduce the visibility of what you guys are talking about. A visual "trick" if you will. disguises those black filled in "holes" pretty good

I used black out tape and punched out some circles with a hole punch. Put those in there the tabs are and you cannot see the tabs.

Usually when it is mounted you cannot see those tabs. Unless you have a light colored LS, then you just spray paint some black on the little lip that the grill sits against. That way you cannot even tell those tabs are there. kinda like just making it really dark behind the grill and eliminating any colored paint.

Sooo, how did it turn out? Or did you not actually do it yet?

True, I also have black out tape behind the grill on the frame.

As you can see, the little pins that go into the car to hold it are still there, the holes didn't affect it. It was close on the rwo outer pins, but it still cleared. I just had to drill a little at a down angle so i didn;t hit the pin since its bent down as well but the middle ones i just drilled straight through. On the second to last picture, you can see a little hole that i forgot to finish. Its one towards the bottom and its only a half cirlcle so i drilled in a little hole and finished the rest up with a metal circular file. How would it look if the middle section below the emblem was also filled with holes instead of with that strip down it?

craig, I think that black out tape may be the way to go for my window trim, like you did.

Alax7 I thought you were running the CDC grille?

I am. I have both. The cdc grill went up for sale and I jumped on it cause they always go fast and then later that night the mclaren went up for sale too and i wasn't going to get it but it was cheap.Over the summer, I offered some other guy a little more than what I got the mclaren grill for and he replied back, "you're kidding right'' so when this one went up for sale I jumped on it too. Thats why I'm holding up on buying the lse fascia. Money just flew out my wallet.I got struts, tires, cdc grill, mc grill, and those nokya bulbs all in like three weeks, thats like 1800 in three weeks. My wallets was burnt up. :( . But I did come up a on a grill finally. :D

I cant for the life of me find the smaller size used for the upper trim, just the size for the lower trim.

Alax7, whos silver McLaren grille is that in those pics?

what are you doing to your windows?

I used black out tape on the chrome trim on my windows. This was two years ago and it still looks great. Cut the trim tape in half and if I remember correctly it only took one roll. I used the factory edge of the tape on one side of the chrome trim and cut the other side with an Exacto knife after applying the tape. GEN I LS's came with chrome trim around the windows. See pics with the chrome blacked out.

Here's a before/after I took of my car. But I took it froma distance, and just put electrical tape over it to get the idea. I pulled it off right after the pics, but I really want to do it more permanently.

JWerner, you are looking for the 3m pinstriping tape that would be cut to the exact size. Jason (02LSE96LSC94TC or something like that) used the 3M stuff, but it is more expensive.

Oh yeah. Nice.

The silver mclaren grill is mine. The all black sitting on red background is someone elses, just used it to show the unpunctured holes. The gray one is the one I bought right after the cdc grill. I got it from rsimmons. He's the one I thought had bought it for 600 but it was sarcasm.

Pete, I really like the look! The window chrome blackout really looks great on the sport models that do not have the chrome trim on the bumpers.

Thanks, man. Going to order the blackout tape shortly :D

Pektel, so what do yo have on your windows now? I dont see chrome in your pics.

What if you can find cheap 2nd Gen trim? Will it mount?

I can get that black out tape pretty cheap at some hole in the wall shop. Ironically its the same no name shop I found my cheap Duragloss in!

You gots a PM Alex.

hey Pete can you pm me the place where your getting the black-out tape? is it true to size? i want to do everything like you did, it looks great.

I found it locally at O'Reilly. They had to order it as it was not a stock item for them. Trimbrite product I think it was past number 9005 or T9005. It was only about $5.00.

I got some today!!!!

Wooo hooo!

I suggest getting two rolls. One wasn't enough. Im still installing it though I got the bottom on and I need to go out and get more. I suggest also using a very, very sharp blade and only applying gentle pressure. Im using a special utility knife shaped like a pocket knife thats pretty heavy so I caught on to letting the weight from the blade be all the pressure needed cause it can scrunch up and tear easily.

Im between painting and putting this black out tape on so pics will come when my car is finally 100% chromeless tonight!

The company that makes it for those of you looking on line is call Trim Brite.
