Hello. This is a great site! I've got a pretty clean 95 LSC and a fresh 460 sitting in the garage. Has anyone done a big block swap into a Mark VIII before?

Thanks.

If your in detroit swing by grossbeck and 9.5 mile to diamond fabrication, he can tell you if it will fit and what you will need.

Been done, fits and works well.

And for the extra weight you loose power brakes and an accesory drive?
Im all for different, I like uniqueness (sold the Stang not the Mark) but if thats gonna be a street car why would you add that much weight and lose all the niceties for a car that would have been just as fast (or faster) with all the bolt ons and a nitrous kit?
Or go the baller route and blow it. :D
Now if its just a drag car and you just want to get the most power cheaply and to hell with the car being driven on the street then I can see the desire.

It will be rarely driven on the street . I purchased it to do a little drag racing mainly grudge racing type stuff here in Detroit. I want to keep it as stock looking as possible, with as much power as my pockets will allow. Thats why I was thinking big block although I'm not dead set on it yet. I'll tell you what though, I bought this car at auction and I really didn't look at it all that closely, it's pretty clean for a 95! I almost hate to touch it!

LMAO bolt ons? nos and go as fast, NOT lmao this car runs mid 8's on pump gas and street driven. The weight loss from all the crap was almost an exact trade off for the new engine, the SVO 460 is light man, lighter then yiou may think. The cage added most of the weight back.

I don't think that BB mark gets alot of street duty...

All the time man, it's a stroker that runs on pump gas. Same as my 8 second T/A thats a full pump gas street car with full gut and power windows, I even have a system in it too, LOL.

You guys see big tires and wheelie bars and think it can't be street driven. Stroker technology as caught up with us and you can have 800hp on 93 octane.

For what your after just do a 427 or a 465 inch stroker small block Ford with a Pro Charger or single turbo, keep the front end stock then do a solid axel 9 inch in the back with a small 10.5 tire. Do it right with the right combo you can look "Fairly stock" and still achieve 8 second time slips on the street.

Holy shyt Geno... thats wild

That thing just looks like it would be a handful on the street... But I think laser was referring to how it lost alot of it streetabilty... As was I when I said what I said.

I guess you could drive most things on the street, but would you want to ? :D Well I would but I'm effing crazy

Its fine, runs cool, goes straight VERY safe etc. Power windows still work too.

Didnt know it was an 8 second car. I figured it would be a 11 second car and we have seen members do better then that. Figuring a 460 is gonna see about 460HP using quality parts (380ish on ported stock parts and a cam) and knowing the 4.6 DOHC can see 340 (not at wheels through AOD) with a tune, 3/4 headers, the famous LMS MAF, double x cat back and then throw a 100HP shot on that and the engine is making 420ish at the crank AND is about 50lbs lighter (4.6 w/all acc, 460 with none) then it would seem to me the 4.6 is the better choice that would make the same speed.

So take a bolted on 4.6 like I said, gut the interior, remove ALL the acc and power steering/brakes, put in a specialized trans like the 460 has and a shortened 9" solid axle with 4.56 gears and I bet you are within a hair of the same time.
But he keeps the stock sleeper look and sound (no big block exhaust or bolt on cowl hood).

I am going on the assumption the OPs 460 dosent have a radical cam, giant carb, killer heads or that he was gonna install a 9" SRA, Powerglide and a full cage.

Geno, I had failed to notice the rear end on that Mark you posted at first which would have told me it was a sub 10 second car.

8's?? LOL no way man. 8's is a hard door to open. 9's is even difficult but 8's is HARD!!

That sounds like a challenge Geno... Laser... BUILD IT!!!

:D

<<< stirs the pot

Ohh and BTW Laser... The pics Pwned you!!! :D

That engine combo sounds like it will get the job done but it also sounds a bit pricy!

I was going to get another mark viii to soop it up (thats how us old guys from the 60's call it!) I was going to work on the stock 4.6, but now after reading this thread, you guys are getting me hungry!!!!

One of my Friends just built a 465 and it was around 13k. Then the blower and plumbing etc.

You do a Vortech 351 and be pretty nasty too for alot cheaper.
