PCM computer question

I have a 1994 Mark and I suspect that something might be wrong with the computer, I will spare the details, search my previous threads for the transmission problem I have been having. Anyways, I want to swap out my computer with another, but Ford is telling me that I MUST install the exact same computer with the exact same program / software or else I will have problems. Is that true?
I have a F4AE-6E061-LTL with the 4-38L-R00 program in the car, I am looking at getting a F3LF-12A650-AD or F4LF-12A650-AA from E-bay, but I am not sure if either will work.

They should work for the most part. There can be issues but I believe worst case scenario they economy/performance is effected. I dont believe there can be and devastating effects.

Any 93-95 PCM will work, I've only heard of one case where a PCM swap didn't work as described above.

I've done no less than 10 myself and have experience with 15-20 others.
never did one that I was involved in not work.

I read one case here on LVC but I have no details on that.

w3z2 and w3z2 PCM codes have a very nice stock calibration in them
z4h0's and dza1's kinda suck IMHO

i have swapped between 93 and 95 myself with no ill effects

I was the case that had the W3Z3 that didn't work. It was also placed into my 94 but wouldn't crank the car. The cooling fan came on but that was all it would do. Didn't cause any harm. I tried cranking it several times but it never would start. The PCM worked fine when it was taken out of the 93 also. Go for the one Tommy is suggesting and try to stay away from wasting your money on the W3Z3.
