Hey LVC. I have an 03 LS V8 with a keypad on the driver side door. I've had the car for about a year and have never been able to get it to work. The problem is this, one of the buttons doesn't work. My password requires hitting one key 4 out of the 5 times. My theory is it's been used to much. I've confirmed every other key works as each key makes the backlight turn on, except of course the one that is used for 4/5 of the password.

Any ideas or suggestions on how I can fix this myself and how to do so? Thanks

easy: get a new keypad out of a donor car (junkyard) or new from dealer(Max) and replace it

not so easy: get the button part itself take your keypad apart and replace the failed button

How hard is it do your easy method? Is it just popping it off from the outside or does it involve taking a lot of the door apart?

Take the door panel off, unplug the connector and remove the keypad. It is held on with a sliding clip. I used a pair of long needle nose pliers. IIRC, the clip slides forward.

the hardest part is taking the door pannel off, and thats pretty easy, just search for the instructions (someone has posted them before durring a window regulator replacement) there are also instructions for a 1gen in the tech articals under speaker replacement, its not quite the same as the 2nd gen, but it pretty damn close

oh yea, make sure the window is up when you do it

Thanks, I was able to find the post for the window regulator replacement. (http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=25687&highlight=Window+Regulator for those who it may also help). I think you answered my next question with the make sure you have your window up, as I was going to ask if I needed to take out the regulator.

I made a parts inquiry with Maxx at five star ford for the part. Haven't gotten a response yet but any other places where I could get this part? I've checked rock auto and couldn't find it. If anyone had a part number or website to try that'd be great.

Thanks for all the help

That looks great! Where did you get the paint to match it the body? Simple process to paint it?

You can check team ford or your local dealer too

Thanks, I managed to fix it myself. Once I got the keypad out and apart i noticed that the rubber had small cracks in it. This had caused the contact points to corrode. I cleaned the contact points, sealed the cracks with some silicone and it worked.

Edit: BTW I did get a response from Maxx, and he did have the lowest price.

On an allied note, has anyone looked into making a Gen2 keypad work in a Gen1 car?

KS

I know my local dealership will add the keypad to any vehicle for $125 installed which doesn't seem like a bad price. Check with your local dealership.

Thanks! I got a can of matching paint from www.paintscratch.com, cleaned the plastic well, used a bumper coat paint as a primer, taped off the surrounding sheet metal & "numbers" and sprayed away. IIRC, I used about 3 color coats and 4 or 5 clear.
