well i just inspected my front end i need sway bar links, lower control arms, strut rod bushings on both ends.I had one question i can do all those things but i wanted to know how to change those inner tie rods?Which brand is best i think im going to order from rock auto?

Moog for all but the strut rod bushings. 2nd the warning.

It's the only product of Moog's that I've both heard and seen bad things about.

Go to Max for OEM strut rod bushings.... again DO NOT USE MOOG STRUT ROD BUSHINGS...

Moog stuff it great for everything else though...

I use Moog Strut rod bushings with no problems. Most failures that I have seen is that who ever put the Moog units on did not trim the ferrels down and tried to over compensate on tightening everything up and the result was Split Blue Bushings. You should trim about 1/4" from the length of the ferrel and it should work fine. The Moog Problem Solver Bushings are of a higher durometer rubber than stock and are blue in color.

strut rod bushings at the arm or frame? which are not good ones to get from moog or both of them?

I have a 98 lsc with a split blue bushing on the drivers side where it meets the frame, it was pretty new and I was like WTF happened, it literally fell apart in my driveway, one day there was a chunk of blue bushing on the floor I was like what the heck happened.. in the process of rebuilding the front end parts.

What's your problem KK ?

He is talking about the new improved Moog bushings.

MOOG Part # K8659
Frt Susp; At Frame; Improved Design
And hes right they suck big time.

I know its my car he installed them on.
We went around and around on what to do over the phone.
I told him to cut the crap out of them and get them on.

I will deal with it later.

I felt bad because it took extra labor to install the bushings.
IMHO they should fit right out of the box.
No triming.
Don't repeat the same mistake get the bushings from max.

Thats not even talking about the horror stories like fatboyq"s were they just split.
I found out after I bought them.
I wish someone warned me.

Why screw around with something that holds your LCA in place.

There you go another improper install. I have no dog in the fight so get what you will, the original rubbers came out of Standard Products to Ford and the Moog's were just a higher durameter and were supposed to handle some of the curb/safety bump situations for a firmer feel. Max is certainly another favorite of mine, I have a place set for him every Thanksgiving.

What Roadboss is trying to say (correct me if I'm wrong please,) is that even the OEM Ford bushings may need to be trimmed to fit for a proper install.
I can copy the directions from the Ford service manual if you like to show the correct way to install them. It states in the instructions that they may need to be trimmed, so even the OEM's don't always bolt in...

Well this whole situation agravates me because:

1. I feel like I generally know what I am doing when it comes to working on cars, and screwing up something so simple would just doesn't seem possible...

2. If they just needed a small amount of trimming, no problem... but these were ridiculous...

I wouldn't call these silly strut bars all to simple, they have a bunch of pieces that need to go on in a certain order and direction to be right.

How much did you need to trim off 'em?

$63.56 LVC cost for the 8 bushings for those strut rods. Plus shipping. That is for the bushings only..you reuse the washers and ferrels.

I don't want to agure I trust your opinion.
I also trust KK.
Nobody works on my stuff but me, until now.
Thats how much I trust kk.
I just didn't have the time to do the install, I'm under a big time crunch and these bushing you just don't blow off.

These bushings don't even look like anything else you can buy the shape is different.
With that being said its still fairly obvious how they are supposed to be installed.
Once you had them in your hands you would see there was no way anyone could install them on without triming a lot off.

You know Moog makes two styles of the brushing right?
There is the MOOG Part # K8680
Frt Susp; At Control Arm; Problem Solver; w/thermoplastic bushing

I am talking about MOOG Part # K8659
Frt Susp; At Frame; Improved Design
Go to rockauto and you can see the pictures of both.
The new and improved bushing looks like nothing else out there.
I only bought them because I try to get the best.

I only chimed in because I don't want to have anyone else go thru this headache.
There are threads on other sites about Moog bushings being junk.
There not hard to find, I wish I looked.
You could be right, they could be improper installs.
I can't find any threads on stock bushings going bad after a new install....only threads stating they are bushing to buy.
From this research done on my part, and this problem with these Moog bushings, I would advise anyone taking on this task to buy stock from Max.

KK/Brandon THIS is precisely what I asked you on the phone..and you said "NO, it's hard to explain"...lol

That's correct you use 1 set of each of those part numbers, they are both of the same durameter rubber, and are part of their Problem Solver Series.

LOL.......Ops :p
I see what your saying.
Now I know were the problem is.
Some dumbass provided the wrong parts.

That dumbass was me.:(

I got the 2 sets of the Frt Susp; At Frame.
God I feel stupid.
Sorry Brandon.
One free gut shot next time you see me.

That's a classic!

*visualizes KK struggling with two sets of frame end bushings*

lololol - No wonder some major trimming was required.

Well the last 4 fronts I touched have these with the last one over 6 months old and the oldest is 5 years and 65,000 miles and noooooo problems on any of the components (the exact ones as listed above).
