Im shopping for a new toy after have a 96 mark 8 I was told the LS;s were too slow. I just found a 06 LS with 280. Who's got the info on when the LS's went to the 280 horse, and what gears do they have in the rears? Also is there alot of upgrades available for them?
 
I wouldn't say alot..but things can be done...and now LLSC has a supercharger for the LS's for the Gen 1s which are the 2000-2002 models and the 2003-2005 are the Gen 2 models...if that helps....
 
I see no point in having a LOT of HP when there's nowhere to use it...at least around here....the nearest public race track is about 80miles away :P and i don't know if it's even still open.....
 
Haha, I've got Road America right less than 30 minutes away! I have always thought about starting a drag strip and maybe a small race track. It would probably be pretty expensive though. What does it usually cost to get on a track or drag strip? Do those places do dyno testing to?
 
Well I find places to use it. now back to the topic, does anybody know the gear ratio's and what rear is actually in the car?
 
3.58 ratio 8" rear end, not 8.8". You can not find a upgrade for the 2nd GEN 03-06 LS rear end unless you swap out the entire pumpkin and get a custom made driveshaft for the car.

Other option is if you have a 2nd GEN like I had, you can put a 1st GEN pumpkin in with 3.58 gears which came on early production 00 LS's and 02 T-Birds. Then you can use a 8.8" LSD diff with the 8" ring gear and swap out to 1st GEN axles as well and leave the driveshaft alone.

With the 8" pumpkin 3.58 is the highest gear ratio you will get in there unless you have TONS of cash to get a custom ring and pinion made.
 
but its still a grandpa car and it still has four doors. you want speed, by a mustang or a ctsv

kinda a mis match but had to through it out there.
 
Well thx for the info 02V8sport, but due to some low mileage mark8's popping up for sale, I think im gonna build another Mark. I found a buddy that builds the ford 4.6 all the time, so im looking for 500 everyday horses to play with those riceburners. Thx again

dude grandpas have hella money...most of them could get a fast car if they wanted to but they would rather have sound investments them waste hard earned money on a depreciative motor vehicle....

I'd actually prefer my LS cause it is a status of Luxury and the only ppl I see driving one are ppl twice my age if not more...at to me that's a mission statement to have a great car at 20 (now 22) that plenty of ppl are buying at their near retirement days. I wouldn't mind keeping it and just replacing the motor/tranny everytime it needs it......much cheaper to do then put ll money in a new depreciative car :p i'm not gonna get my money back selling or trading my car :p
 
21 here and i agree. i have a 68 mustang gt thats gonna have over 400 out of a ffrp crate so i dont need a expensive fast car. I like my lincoln and what other car could you put Hot Rod Lincoln on the PLATE. its awsome

English versions of the AJ engine are available with 400+ HP. There's a 550 HP race version and with upgraded internals it's quite possible to go over 1 K. Speed costs, how fast do you want to go?

Okay there are a lot of mods to gain hp on the ls. Just because it hasn't been done yet doesn't mean it can't be done. I'm in talks for getting a safe, everyday 400 rwhp. I'll be more than satisfied with that.

Everyone has different ideas of "fast". I don't need a 9 second car.

A different block, heads, and intake at the least.
The LS engine was somewhat derived from the Jag engine, but it is not the same. I don't think the Jag block will mount to the LS transmission, and the LS electronics can't handle the Jag heads (different valve timing controls), or the intake.

these cars dont need much more figured out. Stall, tranny work, head work, cams, headers, SC, turbo, nitrous, meth... its all been done before. As for your build Mr. Pete, I have some ideas for you. When I feel better I'll call you






I know its besides the point since your going with a Mark instead, but for the OP's general info. The first Gen LS (00-02) came with 255 to the crank. Then for the second gen (03-05, 06 too sorta but the body is slighly different i think) they changed a few things to include the 3.58 gearing, VVT, throttle by wire and some fancy manifold work bumping them up to 280 a the crank. Actual after market listed as for the LS doesn't really exist but if you read my response to Pektels comment its all been done. As a LS owner looking for power, you need to learn to think outside of the box. Some of our parts are custom made, some are made for other cars then made to work. The only thing I cant think of being tackled yet is the shocks. There are a few different springs out there but I have yet to see someone solve the shock mystery.
