Mass Sucks!!!

Now that I live in northernish WI we dont have emissions up here. I used to have to register my cars with my cousin's address so I could skip it in milwaukee. When I lived in Jersey they had a whole heap of crap to get a plate. The car I had burned oil, but the muffler had a hole in it, which is why I think it passed the emissions test. I'm going to go burn a tire for cobra in protest.

I know The Great and Mighty Powerful Lord Obama want's to make it a fed regulation and inforce emmisions 50 state wide by 2010, and by 2020 all new cars have to get 30+mpg to be sold here. He's so smart good thing I dint vote for him!

You know how the Honda people do it?

They drive around with expired inspection stickers.

By actually attempting to keep your car legal, you shot yourself in the foot :)

!? The police must be a real pain out there.:([/QUOTE]

Thats an understaement!!!!! The police here make Nazis look like cub scouts, they are giving out more and more tickets to generate revenue. Now they want to pass the seatbelt law to make it an offence that they can pull you over for not wearing it.

I thought the "stock" exhaust law got shut down ? not sure will have to look it up

If that's true then Obla.. bla can suck my fu<ken balls!!!!!!!

Well, having already witnessed one country go down the toilet, don't wanna see the same thing happen here!

Lets revolt!

Who's with me? :D

What??

Elaborate?

I am from Michigan, I joined the Army and moved to Tennessee, I bought my car in Kentucky, to keep from paying taxes, because military is tax expemt, I kept Kentucky tags. I then moved to Maryland and since insurance is cheaper here, I switched to maryland insurance. If I get Maryland tags, i have to remove my tint and pay taxes on my car.

?????? quote error

Definately a major understatement.
I got pulled over for my tint about 20 mins over the border when I was driving home from picking the car up in NJ. Then the next day I got pulled over twice when I was on my way to buy new tires for it. Super crazy - but they never looked at my absent inspection sticker!!!

I Concur! Mass. inspection laws suck. Along with many other laws.
Being a lifelong resident of Mass., I have dealt with these absurdly strict inspection rules for over forty years. As time goes on they get worse. There are many vehicles on the road here that don't comply with all the regulations. If someone has a friend that is an inspector, that inspector will be lenient with him. Some inspection stations are more lenient than others.
For those who don't know; a couple of examples of how strict our inspection laws are: Any safetry related equipment in stalled on the vehicle at the factory must be in good working order. Windshield washers are considered a safety item because they clean the windshield. If they don't work, even if only because there is no fluid in the tank, the inspector is supposed to reject the vehicle. Many vehicles have parking lights with two layers of plastic that make up the lens. If the outside layer is broken or cracked, even though the inside layer is intact and no overly bright light is exposed, the vehicle is supposed to be rejected.
If your vehicle fails inspection for a safety related item, there is no grace period or time frame to get fixed. As the law reads; you must stop driving the vehicle immediately refrain from driving it until it is repaired and re-inpected. This doesn't even allow you to legally drive the vehicle home or to the place where it will be repaired.

As far as aftermarket exhaust goes, I believe that the recent bill to restrict exhaust system to original equipment was stuck down.
However, if your vehicle came from the factory with a catlytic converter, it must retain at least the same number of converters that it came with. Even if your vehicle no longer needs to pass emissions testing.

When tinting windows, you must take into consideration the fact that factory glass has about 3% tint in it and this must be added to the % tint you are putting on the windows. I'm not sure what the limit is here. 35% or 33%. and this only pertains to the driver's door windows and front passengers door window. No additional tint is allowed in the windshield other than factory. All other windows can be as dark as you want, even painted as long as there are outside mirrors on both sides of the vehicle.

I have found that even though your vehicle may have some mods that make it illegal, the way you present yourself on the road can make a difference in wheter or you get hassled by the police.

In Mass a chews it (my home state), I believe the vehicle inspection laws are way too strict. At the same time I think some inspection is a good idea. I would not like be on the road with thousands of cars with bad ball joints or tie rods with wheels just waiting to fall off.

Last time I got rear ended, it was by a guy with expired inspection tags. Why were they expired? He was driving on bald tires. How did I get rear ended? He hydroplaned in the rain and slid into me. Completely preventable accident. So he got cited twice (once for the accident and once for driving without inspection), the vehicle got towed until it could get inspected, and I feel that justice has been done. Had he kept that car legal in the first place, it would have saved both of us a lot of trouble.
At the heart of the matter, it's really not a huge concern. By staying on top of my car, I've never needed anything for inspection; or at least, the few times that I did were things I knew about ahead of time and either fixed myself or planned on getting done. It doesn't take much to keep a car legal, the people who complain most about inspections are the ones who try to take shortcuts when it comes to maintaining their cars, because they do not like being forced to do it.

That said, Woof correctly points out the other edge of the sword that they are abused by mechanics who let stuff slide that they shouldn't (though the mechanic can get into legal trouble down here if they pass something that shouldn't and it causes an accident). The other problem with inspections is that they can and do get abused by dishonest mechanics creating fake work for themselves.
