my uncle is selling his 03 ls v6 premium with 53,000 miles on it and another year on the warrenty. he also replaced the valve covers due to the known probs that they have had. he's willing to give it to me for 9,000. id like to get him down to 8 grand. but what do ual think about the deal or just stick to my guns and wait til i go to the auction with my mechanic and take our chances their.

Hes asking a pretty fair deal if its in excellent condition. Im sure you can find some faults and I would offer like 8000 or less and be done with it.

However, I would never buy a v6! lol!

yeah thats what ill only buy it for. i want the v8 but beens in 19 and a college student i drive alot so the v6 would help with gas and insurance but i can afford the v8 so thats what i want lol. but a v8 would obviously atleast run be 9000. so if i can get it for 8 then i think ill take that but anything above that ill prolly take my chances with the auction. whats uralls thought

I don't think many people here want to weight in their opinion on this because it reminds everyone how much they paid for their LS's that have such horrible resale values lol!

The V6 gets less than 1 mpg better than the V8. I have both.....

I try very hard not to do business with family members. It is just asking for trouble.

You hit the nail on the head with that one. I bought my 04 v6 in June 05. It now has 85k on the clock and unfortunately I still owe on it.

I know the OP said "premium" but I just want to make sure that includes heated/cooled seats. That is the one thing I would insist on if I were to buy another one. If so, get it.
If I do get another one.... it will be a loaded 06. But for now I'm still dreaming.

I think that's not the best deal. Firstly the v6 engine seems to be a lot of trouble in general. Secondly I think it should be cheaper. There is no real gain in getting the 6 over the 8, and you lose a lot of the fun of the car. Also beware of the electronic throttlebody. Lots of us who owned 03's have had problems with it (first year etb).

I dont see how you can say the v6 engine has a lot of trouble.... compared to what? the v8? You have got to be kidding right? They each have their trouble spots (v6 had PCV hose and v8 has leaky VGC's) other than that the ford duratec v6 is quite a reliable engine; it's been used in many different models with positive results.

the biggest mistake i ever made when i bought my first ls was getting the V6, i regreted it EVERYDAY.

I have spent 4400 dollars in two years on my car, my car has only 65,xxx miles on it. I have a friend with a V8 who drives the crap out of his and he hasn't had any problems. I have had to replace my oil pan gasket, coils, catalyc converter x2, PCV hose, upper radiator hose, coolant flush twice (this was my fault). I take really good care of my car, I get my oil changed every three months and go to the dealership for everything!

And i had to replace my seat cooler thing, and unclog the sunroof drain, and my reverse sensors went haywire, my steeringwheel controls also, she runs good now though!

yea i never drove a v8 but my v6 was fun for like... amonth or 2 now its just boring as shyt.. but a nice car...idk what ima do sell it of just ride it till it dies

Blanket statements are rarely accurate. Both of my LS's are V8's, and I haven't had any valve cover gasket issues yet. My 04 has 99K miles, and my 06 has 48K. I'm the only owner of both, and neither have had gaskets replaced. I did (just last week) have to replace the O-ring on one of the oil control solenoid valves on the 04. I've also had four coils fail (one by one), the solenoids in the transmission had to be replaced, and the DCCV failed, all on the 04.

When I was doing my last recent bit of LS shopping I actually had a 2 different salesmen tell me they don't even bother with LS v6's because of the problems. The v6's had lots of additional issues, on top of all the other regular LS problems, due to their different engine. The v6 engine isn't just the v8 minus two cylinders.

Yep it sure didn't take long to long for that v8 (not to mention the heated seats & sunroof that I also didnt get).

GO with the V8, please it will give you less problems, and the gas mileage is the same.

I completely agree with the gas mileage statement. Mine averages 19-20 with mixed use (16 was the worst tank average and 25 the best)

Dang dude that's quite a bill. I have just recently had a PCV hose fail on mine and that is it for the engine. And I do rag the crap out of mine too.

Those are common to all years and engine types.

Strange that they would say that. And I am well aware of the engine type in the v6. It has been used on many other FLM products and is actually quite reliable. The cars do have more than their share of issues but I am happy with my reliability thusfar.

I think i just got a runt of the LS pack, when I did a carfax, whoever bought it paid cash and got rid of it after 26000 miles thats when I bought it, its the premium V6 only option missing is the NAV, I trust it now, I made DC to Texas round trip with no problem.
