waterpump any tips on removing the pump i took out all the screws tryed to pull the unit out no luck
 
^ Ya, pretty much it. You just have to gently pry it out.

Make sure you have a new o-ring seal! Some pumps come with one, some dont.
 
The pump sits in a recess, it's kinda tough to "work it out".

I used a small hammer and tapped down on the pump shaft, then up on the pump shaft and that wiggled it enough for it to pull free.

If you haven't taken the alternator off, you might consider "getting it out of the way"..while it's not required it does open up "some angles" for you to work with.

thanks, im gonna start the car first and warm it up the car been sittin for a little over 2months,then im try to work with the screw driver and gently pry around the edges and see if that works. ill be posting to let you guys know
 
look around the top side of the pump there are two tabs or gaps between the pump and the timing cover.

If you get a wide blade screw driver you can pry in those locations pretty safely.. just dont get crazy prying on it.. aluminum is suprisingly brittle.
 
I've always just used my brass hammer... just be careful, you don't want to damage the engine block.
 
well so far i got the pump to budge just a little bit dam this thing is a pain in the @&& it doesn't look like the pump was ever changed from the 96 mark8

if you've gotten it to budge, then you are close. dont do any thing more than you are right now.

it'll work its way out every time you get it to budge.

look at the new pump and you'll see how far that "lip" goes down into the block and it'll all make sense.

hopefully your new pump has the improved impeller design and isn't the "open impeller" like the old one you take out.

The improved impeller has a plate welded on the back that helps eliminate cavitation and prevents erosion in the water pump cavity.

I put a 99ish cobra pump on my first gen, but I've heard rumors all the new pumps have the improved impeller.

Are you sure you have all the bolts out ?

Not to saying your stupid.....its happened to me more then once
 
you can twist it too, as the housing and the pump are round.

since the old pump is junk, put a pipe wrench on there and twist it a bit.

hell you've probably gotten it out by now..(lol)

and also there is a timing cover bolt that tries to look like a water pump bolt..:shifty:
 
well im happy to say with everyones help i got it out, so i would like to say thank you and u guys are awesome.:)
 
well im embaressed to say that i took off one of the wrong bolt from the bottom of the pump instead it was from the timing cover ended up breaking the pump in half and thats where i saw the other bolt, and no i didn't pipe wrench as much as i wanted to though LOL. peace

Lol... that bolt is pretty confusing... when you hold a timing cover in your hands you think, huh??

Why would they do that???
 
threw my belt today. Less than 5k miles since I replaced it with a gatorback to stop squeeking. lost power steering, heat skyrocketed. Luckily I was only 1/2 mile from home. Got her home. None of the pulleys seem stuck. They all spin fine, including alternator and the medium sized one in the upper middle. Only ones I cant spin are the lowest left and lower middle, lower right spins fine, i imagine that's the power steering pump.

Long story short. Where do I start? I'm thinking waterpump, but not sure how to tell.
 
tensioner pulleys spin fine. Think the broke one is what I think is the air conditioner compressor. The lowest left pulley under the tensioner. Cant turn that by hand.

Actually I'm sure it is now seeing the picture of a new one.

The waterpump is on the top under the alternator, that's spins fine. So I guess I'm in the wrong thread now, lol.

Trying to find an adaptor to replace it, I dont use air conditioning even if it worked.
 
unstuck it with some PB Blaster. And lubed what I could with some synthetic oil. Hopefully it wont seize up again.
