Brake Job

So im changing the rear pads do i need a special tool or something i tried searching but couldnt find the name ... unless its the same as any other car i did where i use my c clamp and my sockets
 
you need a tool, the rear pistons screw in instead of just compressing down like the fronts will, any auto parts store will have one just ask
 
+1 squared to the tenth power.......it needs some kind of locking mech. to keep it on there centered. Its almost like a drug if you get like 5 turns in a row ...its like hell ya , whats up brakes ?????!!!

lol....so i ask for a caliper tool set....hopefully they let me rent it...i pushed it in back enough with the c clamp when i took it out...... looks like enough space....

The rear ones have to screw back in. If you really pushed it all the way back in, then the caliper is probably damaged.

nah it wouldnt even move...lol... didnt move or anything so i didnt push it in all the way .. just wondering if i would have enough space to put the pads in...... I guess i'll have to get this tool.....
 
FYI, I did it using a c clamp, a socket, and a needle nose pliers. Took about 5 minutes extra per side, but it's frustrating.

I HIGHLY recommend AGAINST this method. more like 5 hours extra per side! That method was absolutely worthless.... for me. I was unable to get enough pressure on the caliper and enough grip to twist it at the same time. Do yourself a favor and rent/borrow that tool. It was truely a miracle how much easier it was.
 
k guys i got the piston unscrewed i just used a pair of channel lock pliers to unscrew the piston, but i accidently tore the rubber seal so now i guess i need a new seal.
 
Brake tool... 6 bucks
Rear caliper replacement... 50 bucks
Learning from your mistakes... Priceless

Next time stay at a Holiday Inn Express and these things won't happen.
 
do you know how much those rubber seals are..... i just need 1.... I did exactly what you guys said.... got that cube thing to push it in.... but that tool just sucked..... man why cant get they just make it easy like the fronts.....
 
Exactly! The cube sucked bigtime. The one I got didnt even fit. I took it back to the Zone and used the caliper tool instead. I even tried the channel locks with no success.
So I left the car on the jacks for the day and got the proper tool for the job.

Forgot to mention there were 2 of us. I worked the c clamp and socket, while my brother in law worked the pliers. You are correct that it's a beotch to do by yourself.
