Over the last few days my airbag light has been blinking at me every time I start the car and drive it for a couple minutes. The code I'm reading is 1-5. I checked the list and can't find a code 15 on there or a code 51 for that matter. I have 1 blink, a break, and then five blinks in a row. Anyone have any info on airbag 15 code?

The 2006 manual does list a code 15.
15 = Incorrect Module Design Level

The RCM monitors the electrical condition at C310a pin 20 and C310a pin 21 to detect the vehicle identification code. The RCM compares the pin state with a preprogrammed code. If the RCM detects an unexpected condition at either of these pins, it will store diagnostic trouble code (DTC) C1414 in memory and flash lamp fault code (LFC) 15 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.
Possible Causes

An incorrect vehicle identification code can be caused by:

* incorrect RCM for vehicle.
* wiring, terminals or connectors.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. I guess I'll start by checking the connections under the seats? That seems to be a pretty common problem and go from there. Any other ideas where connections might be bad that are fairly easy to check?

little more... for Gen1 LS

Pinpoint Test D: LFC 15/DTC B1887 — Driver Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground

Normal Operation

The restraints control module (RCM) checks for driver air bag circuit shorts to ground by monitoring the voltage of circuits 30S-JA8 (RD/OG) and 31S-JA8 (BK/OG) at pins 3 and 4. If the RCM detects a short to ground on either of these pins, it will store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1887 in memory and flash a lamp fault code (LFC) 15 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes

A driver air bag circuit short to ground can be caused by:

a short to ground on circuit 30S-JA8 (RD/OG).
a short to ground on circuit 31S-JA8 (BK/OG).
a short to ground on the clockspring (14A664).
a short to ground on the driver air bag module.

Pinpoint Test F: LFC 15/DTC B1916 — Driver Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Battery or Ignition

Normal Operation

The restraints control module (RCM) checks for driver air bag circuit shorts to battery or ignition by monitoring the voltage of circuit 30S-JA8 (RD/OG) and 31S-JA8 (BK/OG) at pins 3 and 4. If the RCM detects a short to battery or ignition on either of these pins, it will store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1916 in memory and flash a lamp fault code (LFC) 15 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes

A driver air bag circuit short to battery or ignition can be caused by:

a short to battery or ignition on circuit 30S-JA8 (RD/OG).
a short to battery or ignition on circuit 31S-JA8 (BK/OG).
a short to battery or ignition on the clockspring.
a short to battery or ignition on the driver air bag module

He has a gen II car, and gen II codes don't all match the gen I codes. Connector C310 is at the restraints module itself, which is in front of the ashtray. The gen II service manual is on-line at

Select "body" to get to the airbag stuff.

Yea, I have an 03. Also, I don't know if this matters, but it flashes code 15 three times and then the light stays constant.

got it - sorry.

weird - my manual for the 03 show LFCs 14 and 16 but no 15.....

I have manuals for 04 and 06, and both have 15 as indicated in my earlier post. It's possible that we are both wrong on this.

I believe that is the normal way that fault codes are flashed out.
