Ok i have one simple question? Basically what is the highest watt amp that i can run with the stock alternator? I appriciate any help.
Thanks Justin

Just bought a new sub and i have a question

I just ordered a Kicker 12" 1200 Watt 2 Ohm Solo-Baric L5 yesterday,
its recommended power is 50-600 watts RMS (1200 watts peak power)
Can anyone recomend an Amp ??

Thanks
Justin

Highest watt amp on the stock alternator... that depends

The very first thing that need to be done is a battery cable upgrade if you are going to try and tax the charging system any more.... the cars really suck a lot of electricity.

so then i should i find a bigger altenator or would the stock one keep up?

get one for a 4.6 crown vic cop car, i think the police interceptors have a higher amp alt on them.

Oh boy this is right up my alley....

How much are you willing to shell out?

To give you an idea Im running a 390 amp alt. with 3 group 56 Optima blue tops, for my monsterous compressor which draws 180 amps,

And my Orion HCCA-275G4 which draws about 100 amps on a good day.

a sohc alt wont fit on a dohc, it will hit the crossover pipe

im running around 1k on my stock alt with no probs, well at idle with the headlights on the dash lights dim a little but still works fine

well right now money isnt really an issue i just want to make it work. any recomendations for an amp. and where would be the best place to get a new alternator?

thanks

no cap, ive heard from many big stereo guys thats its a scam, dont really do anything at all. and i aint worried about it, they just dim a little for a sec

no caps.

In my marquis w/ what i beleive is a 130 amp i was running stock wiring (no big 3) with a modded mtx 1501d rated at 2000rms@.67 ohm's and a fosgate 800.4 that was rated at 956rms using 2 gauge and a high end pioneer w/5v preouts.. The battery was a duralast gold(?) that put out 1000ca's and 900cca's. Yes there was some dimming but it didn't do any harm. I'd stick with whatever fits your budget. If you want a really good bang for buck i'd suggest the 1501d modded. They go for alittle more than 200 on ebay and you can mod it yourself. pm if you want to know how. But if your running it at 2ohm you won't see a increase. The further you go down in ohms the more power you'll get, no further than .5 ohms for daily use. .25 if you burp it at comps and whatnot.

Get a 1000 watt class D amp, its plenty and wont be to ruff on your car. Make sure you run a high grade wire kit and I would suggest at least 4 gauge wire. The wire kit waould run about 50 bux or so. The best bang for the buck on upgrading your electric system is a good optima battery.

Just get a cap and you shouldnt have anymore problems with the light dim

Caps do nothing!

If you understand how they work you begin to realize that it is a scam...

Caps store electrical energy and allow it to be released quickly, as in the event of a big sub hit... so if you were listenting to a song that the subs hit once stopped and the hit again the cap would work, but in most songs that isn't what the subs are doing...

The big three is the first place anyone doing a stereo install should start with, and personally I think any Mark would benefit.

Is there any partiular brand that i should buy. I figured a class D monoblock, is memphis ok? How about this one?

Dont get mem-piss we sold them before and was not a very good brand at all. I like pioneer, alpine, and lightning audio is good as well. Also stay away from the Diamond Audio we just stopped selling, the subs are very nice but amps suck the big one. Diamonds amps kept getting returned every week, honestly they are about as bad as Dual (the brand you see at WAL-MART).

My system totals 1300 watts RMS. The alternator doesn't keep up at full volume. I'd estimate 1000 watts is around the limit of the stock amp.

here is my last car. my buddy installed this setup. stock altenator but with 2 yellow top optimas.

So then I shouldnt have to worry bout the alternator keeping up if I run 600w rms . right
