Mafioso HID Low Beam Conversion

This weekend I got to install the prototype HID low beam conversion from Mafioso. I tried to take as many pictures as possible, and try to accurately compare the output and beam pattern of the factory lights compared to Mafioso's kit.

I took about 100 pictures all together, and unfortunately most of the night shots of the lights are a bit blurry thanks to having a cheap digi cam...

I will also say that this kit was not the final product people will be getting and I am trying to help Mafioso refine the kit to make it as easy of a plug and play as possible.... even for the prototype it was a very easy install though.

I'm going to post up the install pics later when I know what changes Mafioso will be making to better reflect installing the actual kit.

So now the bread and butter... the light output. My camera was being stupid and had the flash on during the factory pics but not with Mafioso's lights... UGH

What I did was mark off three point on my driveway and took pictures of the factory lights and then took pics with Mafioso's lights in the same positions.

I also parked the car on the street and marked off 7 spots progressively farther away from the car to get an idea of what oncoming cars will see and how the beam compares.

We found one main issue so far...

The 97 cars used screws to hold the bulbs in, where the 98 cars used studs. The studs interfered with the rings. I went to the hardware store and picked up some screws and everything was golden.

Those look real good Brandon. i think im gonna start saving op for a set for my Mk too..
 
No offense but they don't look any different than the $80 ebay kit except for the adapter plates. You can fab some adapters up fairly easy for a few bucks.

I would say it all depends on how much this kit will cost. If it's reasonable then it might be worth it since the adapters will be pre fabbed, If it gets into the $200 dollar range I would say no.

As far as I am concerned this whole focal point is a weak argument. One can easily compensate for that with the depth of the adapter & bulb.

Its not as easy as it may look to make the adaptors otherwise more people would have already done it, instead of anyone buying used almost dead bulbs.

Sure you could say that they look like any ebay $80 special, but the truth is they are far from, the idea started the same as an ebay special, until I reverse engineered the kits, and submitted custom specifications, on the bulbs and ballasts.

We are constantly doing R&D to come up with a better PnP kit.

We care about overall performance of our products. Thats why we offer a lifetime warranty on our products, and the only thing that is not covered is intenional neglence
 
That is the EXACT same rings sold by the other guy, even has the off-set wrong.

hell even IF they were the same, I dont see the 80.00 ebay guy hanging around on this message board, supporting his potential customers.

I'd gladly pay more for a well engineered kit that was supported by a person who didn't show up and make his first post trying to "sell us something".

Mafioso has been around here awhile, he's not a bottom feeder spammer that joined this board to "sell stuff".

He's a mark 8 owner and enthusiast that started this project to HELP OUT other mark 8 owners.

I seriously doubt he's
1. getting rich
2. planning his retirement around this project.

Personally I would like to THANK Mafioso for going thru the trouble and EXPENSE of putting this together.

P.S. I heard a nasty rumor that "Glitch" is also hiding out someplace in texas producing a quality product for Mark 8 enthusiasts.

I couldn't imagin trying to convey the differences between a 97 and a 98 headlight housing with "some guy" from/in/sounds like he's from china.

Me: the bulbs dont fit, they have studs not screws.

China dood: joo wan won ton soop?

Me: no no, the housings have studs not screws

Chine dood: Solly wason odther rine sir...hold on.

Me: I cant make the bulbs work they have studs not screws

China dood: my buds weel wok you have to puelyout stud and use gloo.

Me: GLOO?
China dood: JES..JOOO!

*hangs up and calls mafioso*
 
Lol... I don't know anyone else who offers a lifetime warranty on there bulbs and ballasts... and I also don't know any HID supplier on eBay that I have there personal cell number and can get a hold of them when I have issues.

I personally will buy a quality product and expect good customer service... but I also expect to pay for it.

I could mention that Mafioso sent the kit to me 2 day shipping and called me to confirm that it got to me... none of this 2-3 three weeks wondering when the kit is coming crap....
 
Dont get me wrong, I am all for another option like this kit.

But they only thing here is the adapters that he made, so not sure were you get the "Texas Built" thing from :) Besides, are the ballasts made in the US and the lamps, cables? I dunno, Mofasio knows. But we do know he is easy to get a hold of so if there is a problem I am sure he will take care of ya like Eddie does.

I was only pointing out that the above kit is the same already sold on eBay. I am sure some recall that thread from long ago. As was proven over and over, the adapter miss-centers the lamp. These appear to do the same. Probably not a big deal, but for all the care and time put into it I am surprised that the adapters look IDENTICAL with the same flaw. Will it still work, sure!!!!

So your speaking from experience over parroting what someone else says on the internet.

If I'm not mistaken, the KIT itself is put together deep in the middle of texas.

Where the gas gets injected into the bulb probably isn't on this side of the planet.

I dont care who or where the gas was injected into the bulb, I do care where the guy that supports the product is located.

in MY case, it's within one tank of gas. (your mileage may vary)
 
I know that Mafioso told me the supplier is in Japan... now that doesn't mean that is where the bulbs are manufactured...

I will say that having seen the lights in person the beam pattern is very close to what it was with the factory bulbs...
 
It's the same stuff then, the adapter plate is the only exception. A kit just like this is already offered through e-bay. He is a member here as well.

I'm not going to get into this whole debate about where the adapter is made. Bottom line is that anyone can put one of these kits together who is handy with a few tools. You guys talk so much crap about the HID's from e-bay even though these HID's are from the same place & possibly the same brand name. Like I said before, If the price is right then it would be a good kit to buy for a plug & play. If it's over $200 then I honestly think it's not worth it.

All this talk about the focal point, geesh enough already. It looks the same as the other kit offered & his is overpriced too if you ask me. I would put my so called inferior ebay HID's up against these & I doubt if any difference would be noticed except for your pocket being a bit lighter.

Yes, it's nice to see a guy making these kits available. They are not any better then the others as far as I can see though. Sorry but I call things the way I see them.

Are your kits DOT approved???

Sure, this may upset some people, It may also inform others.

working on the DOT approval actually, I have a company assembling the products from designs I have created, I fully back my product and Im not here to argue. :)

Im not here to get rich or rip anyone off just trying to help friends in the community out. :)
 
Mafioso, How much is your kit, what temperature builbs do you offer, and will those adapter plates fit the hi-beams also?
 
THe high beams are already 9005 I belive, the final cost is not ready yet, since I have to finalize the rings and once all of the bugs have been worked out, bam they roll into production and I will have a more accurate price.
