Mafioso HID Low Beam Conversion

I'm happy that I could do my part to help bring this kit to be around... I added my input and I can say that I'm pretty damn critical.

These are specifically for factory HID housings, hence the adapter. If you have halogen then you can just get a re-based HID lamp.

The factory HID housings used a "proprietary" base for the low beam (HID)that no one makes.
 
if you guys look at the pics, you can see with mafioso's kit, u get more light to the ground to see further, the stock HID's have a very short beam that actually lights up the road, heck my parents Versa (with halogens :rolleyes: ) gets more light to the ground than my Mark :shifty:

Whoa, somebody actually asked that question before I did... and you'll take notice that in one of the prior HID threads where mafioso's kit came up, I had discussed this at great length.

For me, even if it is double or triple the price of an ebay special, the DOT approval is worth it so my butt is legally covered when some idiot rails me. Not to mention that mafioso is actually here and willing to answer questions, and probably has a much greater vertical integration of his product than the ebay specials.

The only question I had asked that mafioso has yet to answer is this... are any of those components proprietary? My concern is this: five years down the road, something breaks, and for whatever reason, your company is out of business. Will I be able to get replacement components elsewhere, or will I be in the same position that Ford left me in now?

Great pics, by the way. I like that the focal point is almost spot on - you're closer than any of the other stuff I have seen, and that is pretty important.
 
Yes and No.

Yes- Due to having no regulation on specifications of bulb manufacturing I do not know how well using a common E-bay bulb how well they will perform.

No- I have gone through tests using many different materials to make the rings and they are machine from 6061 alloy so they will last longer then the car will in this application.

In theory the ballasts should somewhat be the same, the only difference between mine and ebay is the quality of materials used.

The bulbs is where its different. I cannot tell you if the ebay bulbs are within specs for a 9006 or if they are offset in the base or if the bowl is near the same place as the halogen counterpart.

One thing I have noticed from the ebay specials from a brand labeled xenarc is that they are dangerous. the bulbs are so poorly made they have very little usable light output. and a TON of glare.

There is a slight difference between being a "member" and being a person that frequently contributes to the site on a regular basis.

Granted the "ebay guy" is a member, but does he have ANY posts that aren't "hawking his wares for his own benifit"...doubtful.

Mafioso is a "REAL" member, that visits the site daily and helps others.

Ebay guy, whoever he is..
I dont recall him contributing anything worthwhile..
like I said before, Mafioso isn't a member here JUST to sell his stuff.

Sure you could say that they look like any ebay $80 special, but the truth is they are far from, the idea started the same as an ebay special, until I reverse engineered the kits, and submitted custom specifications, on the bulbs and ballasts.

We are constantly doing R&D to come up with a better PnP kit.

You can't say enough about product support and I am sure mafioso will stand behind this product.

Good for you bro...to attempt something to help everyone out is mint...your always bound to get haters of your product...turborich ;)...but good for you dude...to help everyone make things easyer in the longrun...
 
When I installed the setup in my car I was looking for the easiest place to mount the ballasts... and I didn't want to have to drill a hole.

Here was my choice.

Due to this placement though the wires going from the ballast to the bulb needed to be lengthened. Luckily for me Mafioso agreed and put the changes through to his supplier....

Yes, he was a member for quite a while untill he sold his Mark VIII. I forgot his name. Anyways he has had this kit availible for quite a while. I still wouldn't pay what he sells them for though!
 
Im a little confused. Do you have to use bulbs from mafioso? Or can you get them say at autozone? Will it be a common bulb size?
 
You guys are not getting the point. I'm sure that Mafioso's kit is just fine. However that doesn't mean that the other kits are no good or inferior. None of the kits seem to be DOT approved so what does it matter?

This is all that I am simply saying. You can buy a good set of HID's for $80-$100 bucks & fab up your own adapter for a few dollars more. You will have a good set of lights that produce plenty of usable light & you won't blind anyone if you have half of a brain.

If you are not handy or don't mind spending the extra money then his kit would be good for you, I agree.

My lights don't glare. I don't get flashed. Most who do not know think they are OEM. It was the best $80.00 that I have spent on this car! I have had no issues or any other problems. If I do need a new bulb in the future they are only $30 a pair.

There are always more than one way to do something & that's my point. I believe that Mafioso is 100% honest & is probably making a nice product. This doesn't make it better though.
 
whats with only one person hating on this project...how come you cant support someone whos making something to exact fit the mark viii...sure 80 for a kit you got to make up an adaptor and then still figure out where to mount ballasts...and does 80 get you the thin ballasts or thick ones...if its 200 or 250...to support something mafio's doing if i had a 97 98 i would buy it just because its going to fit...and to KK for helping him out...:headbang: ...if its all about saving money say so if you don't have the cash to fund something thats made for the mark why bother saying anything about it...whats 200 bucks when you get a lifetime warrenty and great service from someone iv always been able to get in contact with...
 
I dont think its hating. But the point being that the wheel was re-invented. Solutions are already out there and this kit just adds to that.

We can argue quality all day long, or at least until someone kit fails. Until then, they are all at the same level as far as anyone can claim.

Either way, if you have Halogen then the $80 kit is the way to go. This kit is for existing HID only.

no rich YOUR not getting the point, this is a thread about KustomizingKids Experience using Mafioso's HID kit.

The original poster did not ask where to get a cheaper kit than mafioso's, nor how to "home grow" your own HID conversion.

Try to keep this thread on topic..but FEEL FREE to start your very OWN thread about your experience with Brand X HIDS.

yes those are almost done, I have a couple of bugs to work out of them, Im still not happy with the focus, although its significantly better then OE there is still room for improvment.
 
Looks great. I have my ebay kit and love it, but will buy yours if I have a problem in the future.
