So while at OReilly's today I found an MAF adapter plate for 12 bucks along with a cone filter for 25, so I picked them up to try them out. Anyone know anything about Spectre? I'm assuming that there are differences in cone filters that affect performance. This one does have the open top with fins going inside of the filter too.
 
No idea, but I haven't forgotten about you with the gauges. I still haven't had the time to take them out and put the newer ones in yet. Hopefully within the next few weekends I'll be done.

Oh yeah, build a heat shield for that set-up!!
 
I bought a Spectre low-pressure fuel regulator once and it was crap, had to return it. Half the settings shut off fuel completely! (not so useful...) That's all I know about Spectre :D Good luck!
 
Most of the stuff I have seen looks cheap. I'm not sure about the filters I would leave that up to you to fill us in but I did however pick up two of the couplers for when my intake is made.

I figured what could go wrong with them?
 
I'm thinking it'd be easier to just get into the fender well. I'm goin to have the exhaust shop cut me a 3" OD chunk of pipe with the 90 degree bend in it, and cut it to size so I don't have to do any of the cutting myself. One piece system, should be pretty easy after figuring the measurements.

Jwerner, the "chrome" peices are crap. They just looked like chrome plated plastic. Would probably chip/peel within a short amount of time.

Well, it looks like I'm just going to mount it like the standard KKM for now, until I can get into the exhaust shop to figure out specs on the tube from MAF to filter.

How long have either of you been running them? Have you check the MAFS to see if by chance any thing has built up?

I would assume if they were built poorly some particles would make their way to the MAFS not? Possibly the other way around? Restrict more sit flow then some others.
 
ive had it for a few months. but i have it run down through the fender. but my horsepower is magnificent i can definitely tell the difference. and my Miles per gallon has increased. i get 15.5 -16.8 mpg, with heavy chrome 20'' wheels a big subwoofer box in the back. with out it i was ranging somewhere in the 13-15 mpg range. and the factory EPA states it should get 17mpg with only stock things.. so i think i came out pretty good with the cold air intake, and on the freeway i average around 25 - 26 mpg with the spectre air filter cone.
but i also have flowmaster mufflers so maybe thats helping out a little bit.
 
Got it installed. I can notice a little bit of a difference, but I had modified my stock air box before I upgraded to this, so the change wasn't as drastic as some others. Right now it's in the engine bay without heat shield, only because I didn't have time to go to the exhaust shop to get the one piece 3" tube to go into the fender well. Hopefully today I can get there.

JWerner, after it's on for a little while, I'll inspect the MAF to see if anything is getting through/coming off the filter. The biggest thing that concerned me with the filter was that it came pre-oiled. That scares me, because I don't want it to be over oiled, then have to worry about it caking up my MAF.

i hate you guy's and your 1st gen bolt on MAF sensor housing;) (jk) actually i am mad at ford for changing it from the bolt on style to the 2nd gen style where it is built into the filter box:(

I wish we had a nice looking MAFS BOSS/Housing like you guys do on the aftermarket. I just hate looking at the intakes when you have a nice polished tube and all of a sudden you have this hunk of black plastic. I can live with it and all but its just something to b1tch about I guess.


Pektel, I would have just cleaned it first in that case and then re-lubed it if you would have liked.
 
Pete - there's a bracket that goes from the inside of the fender towards the radiator support or there about. If you get that piece of pipe too long, the filter will be sitting at almost ground level. If you get it too short, that bracket will get in the way. At least it's there on the Gen IIs, since that's the problem I had when trying to do mine last summer. I'm pretty sure I posted pics of it in the 'Custom CAI' thread if you wanna see what you're in for.

Oh yeah, I've never oiled my aftermarket filters and never ran into a problem.
 
Thanks, I'll take a look. I was actually goin to pull the wheel and fender liner to check it out better. I'm hoping it will fit just under where I'm running the pipe out of the engine bay. You know I'll take plenty of pictures so you can see what's under there ;)

JWerner, yes I could've done that, but it didn't scare me enough to take the extra time. It didn't seem saturated, and being that it was a white filter, I figured I'd be able to see pretty well if it was over oiled. It was just more of a concern I guess.

Since there is no aftermarket support for Aveo's, I used Spectre parts to do a full CAI on my Aveo. The filter was very nice for cheap $$. The adapters look nice like metal on summit's site until I got them its chrome/plastic. within 2 months one coupler broke, I shortened it to a SRI (short ram intake) and a few more months it breaks again. So dont try to make your own kit, the plastic sux! I'd buy the filter again though.
 
I am making my own kit. But the only Spectre Items I'm using are the cone filter and MAF adapter plate. You can buy rubber couplers at home depot, although I have one of spectre's rubber couplers I'm going to try first. For the tube I'm using 3" OD steel exhaust tube. I don't think that will break any time soon :D
 
NYC- am I going to be able to cut that with a dremel? It looks pretty tough.
