Changed Valvoline 5W-30 motorcraft oil filter :)
Should be cleaned out good two oil changes in 4 days.

anyone use a pennzoil filter? thats what they use at quick lub. We had to go to autozone to get the motorcraft filter

i also use royal purple, it is pricey (over 7 a quart) but I use it in all my cars with either a K+N or Mobile 1 filter-no chain noise on startup, runs smooth and quiet at 120,000
miles.

It's probably the pan gasket. I changed my a few years ago, and it doesn't leak a drop now.

which weight do you use to keep that chain noise quiet???and what about the motorcraft filter I heard that that was good to use?? Is the mobile 1 or k+n better for the noise and did you have that noise before you changed your oil and filter??

lol. i dont think your engine can be fixed with a filter. good luck though.

Motorcraft 820 "S" the "S" stands for the anti-drainback silicone check valve.

Some have had good luck with that filter, some say it didn't help.

I use it every oil change and my cam chains dont rattle.

Did the chain rattle before?

my first gen rattled like a 50 year old chain saw.. and the 820 S made a world of difference.
My second gen doesnt rattle at all...

I presume those that said/say the 820S didn't help already have worn out nylon pads on the secondary chain tensioner and no filter in the world is going to fix a mechanical problem.

Mine was real quite with the rotella . Now the 5W30 valvoline non syn. with motorcraft filter seems to have quieted down also. Not sure yet tho will keep you informed. :)

If the cam chain rattle bothers you, I'll give you a little tip that a wise man once passed on to me.

when you get in the car, before you turn the key.. hold the gas pedal to the floor, then crank the motor for 3-4 seconds...then release the key, then take your foot off the gas pedal.

Then.. fire it up and enjoy the fact that no noise is heard.

The reason this works.. is.
by cranking the engine it prelubes the tensioner.

ALSO you dont have to worry about "flooding" the engine because when you hold the pedal down before you turn the key the PCM thinks the engine IS flooded and the injectors dont fire.

Give it a try, it works like a charm.

That sounds temping but I would be afraid of screwing something up. Like you won't hear nothing because I just screwed it up. :)

I used too many words

it's st00pid easy
hold pedal to the floor
crank engine 3-4 second
release gas pedal and start normally

Do your self a favor and try not to "resist the help" so much... your sure making life hard on yourself..HAHA

not completely, there are no cam bearings in the heads, it just rides on a polished part of the head itself, so it starved for oil for a sec it could present big problems

He'll be posting soon enough about a sheared gear or something else.

If it blows then I'll install a1970 500 Cadillac motor I have a good one with 400 trans. 10 MPG. We put a lot of them in chev. pickups.

I like to swap motors- Motors swaped

265 ford v-8 in a Austin Healey sprint
460 ford engine in a 79 bronco
57 olds. motor into a 1941 ford hurst.
hemi motor into a 56 studabaker
several cads to pickup
I redid a 1982 GMC with a 1972 frame (short Wheel base ) with 92 step side bed 350 motor with Performance intake holly 750 ,400 tranny and 1979 Mark V rear end. I just give this truck to my Grandson yesterday.
todays cars I don't know nothing about them. But I would have no problem installing old engines to newer style cars. Rear wheel drive only. I don't own a front wheel drive because I can not work on them. All I can fix are old wore out cars.Thats why I have so many old Lincoln's

In my days I was very good on making HOT RODS but my days has long gone.I guess I don't have any business with a Mark VIII because I know nothing about it and don't have the money to let someone else fix it. So you young wipper snappers have fun with your new style hot rods. I envy you all.Only if I was 30 years younger. So take care I won't be bothering you as much. Danny

Young?
LMAO.. not "I" said the duck.
I haven't been "young" for over 30 years.

I did alot of research "before" I jumped into a car with so much technical crud going on. I kinda knew what I was getting into..BUT.

I knew very little about these cars idiotic little quirks.

I dont have the money to allow someone else to fix my car.

SO.. I got on the web.. asked questions.. and actually LISTENED to the answers that those with more experience than I had to offer.

I aint some young whippersnapper spending mommies money.
I pay for my own car parts.. and I do my own labor.

Dont sell yourself short, and dont let the fact that "I" am an OLD CRANKY @sshole disuade you.

AND..
you wont hurt my feelings by calling the aformentioned @sshole" because I came to terms with my shortcomings long ago..

First and foremost... FREE YOUR MIND.

This is a very (for its time) new vehicle using many new technologies that weren't around when I and yourself were learning about cars.

Many of the old hotrod tricks you learned simply wont apply in todays world, but most of the "building blocks" of making horsepower remain the same.

When I got my first car, I didn't know how to change a tire..
thank GOD I bought a ford, because "fixing or repairing daily" sure taught me alot about cars.

I look at the mark 8 much in the same manner I looked at my first "ford".
I didn't know much about em, but...

the car QUICKLY schooled me in what TO do and what NOT to do.

Tommy (the old cranky @sshole) Douglas
