I have a car I bought for parts and was planning on removing the engine soon. I see the easiest way is to remove from the bottom. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get the car up that high? I seen one post where a hoist was attached to someone's roof in their garage, but not sure I trust my garage rafters for that.

Thanx

I was planning on doing a engine swap myself. How long do you think it will take if you've never done it before..

if its a parts car and you dont care about it, cut the radiator core support and front bumper core off and pull the motor out straight through the front, then you only need to put it on regular jack stands.

I used SUV jacks and jack stands, went slowly, used leverage, and a ATV jack to move around the K-member, engine and trans. and I did it all by myself in my garage. with no access to rafters.

I've never pulled a Mark VIII motor, but I pulled the Northstar out of my Eldo through the bottom. I lifted the car up using the front bumper supports, a beefy tow strap, and an engine hoist that was bought from a bus company (used to pull bus motors before I got ahold of it.

If you have a cherry picker just hoo it to the bumper support and hoist the car up, keep going till the motor slides out.

If I was doing an actual swap in a car that mattered I'd pull it out the top.

That seems the easiest way to me and those cherry pickers aren't that much at harbor freight.

The harbour fright ones are junk, search c-list for beefy used ones. I found my cherry picker for $50 and it is way way beefier than anything made recently.
