Need Waterpump, electric one worth it?

advance has a 41 dollar asc unit. Any experiences with that? It has a lifetime warranty and the waterpump from what i can see looks very easy to replace. so its not like ide have a problem taking it out if its not up to snuff.
 
i could just need a new gasket.... the pump doesnt make any funny noises or anything - gaskets 3 bucks, just an idea.
 
So, your pump is belt driven. Off serp belt? If your worried about cost, your gonna need a new, shorter, belt too. But positive side, you will also gain mpg. I dont know how much though, nothing to compare it to.
 
The electric pump has an idler pulley. If you get the one without the pulley there will be no safe way to route the belt.
 
I would not think the electric pump would be a good choice for an everyday driver. For the track I'm sure it would be great.

What are you going to gain as far as power is concerned? 1-2 hp at the crank? It's not like it's also turning a fan. Can the electric pump even keep up with the circulation needed for highway speeds. Just a couple of thoughts.
 
eh i did read some literature about them and it didnt make sense for my daily driver. the hp doesnt add up to how much they cost. so i got a 40 dollar one at advance auto works perfect lifetime warranty took 20 minutes to install. hardest part was getting the belt on all the pullys right while holding the tensioner

You will be using that lifetime warranty in about a year. I would only use OEM water pump or the Meizure electric.
 
I personally use the Meziere unit on my Kenne Bell 4.6 vehicle. It has been a solid unit so far. It is also great for when you want to cool the vehicle off quickly between runs at the track. There are more than a few people that run a Meziere water pump on their 4.6's daily driven vehicles without issue. If you are still scared then just install a $5 piezo warning buzzer from Radio Shack along with a relay. Pump fails, trips relay ground, buzzer goes off. Simple.

Good info - that has put my mind at ease. :)

I will definitely get one of these then, when its time to replace the stock pump. Appears the benefits outweigh the initial cost. (to me, anyway)

There are a handful of new production cars running today with these. It causes the same scare as when manufacturers first switched to electric fans. Technology is way ahead. The electric pump runs more efficiently than a belt driven. It frees up power, increases fuel economy, and gives better cooling capacity at high and low rpms.

Yup. Some of the newer cars have electric power assisted steering too - similar benefits. If ever a 'retro fit' one of those became available, i'd be very interested in that too! Anything that increases efficiency is good news.
 
yea. 41 bucks for a brand new waterpump with a lifetime warranty. It does the job, it was in stock at advance auto.

I'm driving down the road right now problem free. Temps are textbook. When theres a problem, i'll be the first one to post about it on this thread! The brand is like ASC or something?

It looked like a quality piece I should have snapped some pictures... I'm happy for now.

I wonder if theres a newer v8 pump that you could take off the pully run a smaller belt and rig up one of these oem electric water pumps. I read in a periodocal about the discussion about aftermarket electric pump vs pully pump. The data was convincing for my purposes to remain with the pully pump based on the FLOW a pully pump provides. Not to mention the power strain placed on the system. Also it puts more strain on the alternator - so it requires the alternator to work harder thus more strain on the alternator pully. Its all relevant.

a 500 dollar water pump has the possibility to turn into a new different Alternator. Im not sure its worth the 10 hp? It would be for someone who only drags the car def. Or someone with money to burn. The options to be able to regulate the pump with a switch are very desirable, but at what cost? If an electric water pump fell out of sky it'd be on my car tomorrow.

My purposes doesnt require a electric, the Motorcraft only standard has yet to be seen. I'm happy for now!

I also tested the hype on the whole accessories gaining hp. By removing my belt and running the car down the street. I could see if you exhausted all other means of trying to get power OUT of your engine first, then this would come into play.

I wouldn't put the cart before the horse if I were you. Feel free to do the same thing I did with some dyno numbers if you have access to a dynographer for free. All i can say it wasn't an OH MY GOD thing i have to get underdrive and electric pumps etc. In my opinion...

In the end its YOUR car. I'm not having any cooling issues whatsoever...
 
I was just reading the description again on their site.

Up near the top it says its ok for street or strip use and has over 3000 hr life.

At the bottom, it says the 12V will work for limited use applications.:confused:

A little cryptic. I wonder if they are loosely implying that its not good for a DD?

More research i think... I just emailed them asking if the 12V is suitable for DD and for any extra advice they can give. See what they say...
 
ide rather worry about getting hp out of the engine first before i start taking accessories off. GT500KR SuperSnake still doesnt run an electric pump :-0

GT500KR Super Snake doesn't run a water pump from Advance Auto, plain water and Water Wetter in its cooling system or 4.10 gears either. Whats your point? ;-)
 
Though electric water pumps are much more reliable than before, I feel a lot safer having a mechanical pump flowing my coolant. Especially in these cars which can run warm and have enough electrical draw as it is.

That said, if you need to replace your pump and want a little gain - I'd go with the EMP Stewart water pump (mechanical). They are designed to reduce parasitic loss and run about $150. Summit has them.
The OEM Motorcraft replacement "Cobra" pump is another option, though these are designed for hi-rpm use and you may run warm idling or in stop and go with it
 
I've had no problems with my Meziere water pump. While I don't use the car for the DD I'm confident it would be fine.

Hi! I am interested in possibly purchasing an electric waterpump for
my 4.6 Ford Modular engine. (model WP346C) On your description, it says its
ok for street/strip use, but at the bottom is says the 12V will work for

No that is not what it means… it is referring to someone that runs a 16 volt system on a drag car.

That pump will work perfectly on your street car. That is the correct part number for a regular street driven car.

When I get around to installing the 200a alternator, which my car currently could use, I'll be interested in the electric.

I've seen them in track use and it's a convenient little machine, especially for keeping the car cool at idle (in heavy congested traffic) or cooling the engine quickly after shut off so you don't have to wait to work on the engine. Besides, I've had three water pumps go bad between two mark viii's. Two started leaking btwn the housing and shaft reeking and causing belt squeak similar to a small pig., and on the other the pulley fell off the shaft- it's pressed on and it was in no way feasable to fix over replacement. I've had enough of the factory pumps.

Anything mechanical will fail in time.

Electric might also help bleed air out after a fill.
 
Yeah I dont see any negatives to the electric except the price. I used a 99 cobra pump when I did mine. Would go electric in the future
