engine fitment for 96 mark viii

a buddy of mine has a 90 mustang .. fully built 10 sec. car... body is show condition and engine has less than 1000k on it ...

my question is its a 306 i think.. fully built with supercharger..

will this engine fit a mark viii??.. i know you can make it fit.. but im not looking to reconstruct my mark around this motor...

how much would be involved...??

he offered me the car for $8,000.... im thinking buy the car take the motor out and then sell the remaining.....
 
my only opinion is why bother. no offense at all, but i think its a huge waste. why not just flip the mustang and pocket the money?
 
ive been looking into engines for my mark... and they are NOT CHEAP to say the least...

this one is fairly inexpensive...

i dont think i could flip the stang and get as much profit as i would save on parts by taking the motor
 
ok... he couldnt find the build sheet so he wrote down what he could remember... mind you he knows nothing about cars ... he pays .. someone else does the work..

306 DDS short block w/ girdle
blower cam
1.6 roller rockers
70 mm throttle body & EGR spacer
30 lb. injectors w/ billet mass air meter
Paxton charger ( MAC ) long tube w/ 3" exhaust
NOS drag kit ( never used)
Canfield heads
5 speed w/ MAC shifter
motorsport clutch..

im sure someone on here will correct this list at some point

$8k gets you a brand new 04 termi motor with more potential than the flexy unibody can handle.

Sure it would be unique and rather simple to do, but why reverse engineer something ?
 
Running 10's on 30lb injectors.

its actually never been to the track.. but.. the guy who built it also built a "twin" with the same setup and it ran 10.6's with slicks

i think he means a 03 cobra moter. i agree that you should go with a 03 cobra moter because it has alot more parts avablie for it and i think you can get more hp out of them. also i dont think that your marks trans would bolt up to that block i am not sure thow. hell a 5.4 out of a navigator would be bad ass to but i think that you would have to mod your engine bay and u would need a cobra r hood.

I disagree, and this is from someone that has swaped a 04 cobra motor.

for 5-6k you can get a drop in mod motor with blower that would romp all over that push rod.

putting a 03/04 cobra motor in a gen 1 or a gen 2 is ALOT of work, custom fab and tuning. not for the faint of heart or shallow pockets
 
It will fit no problem as 91-93 T-birds came with 5.0. 89-97 T-birds and 93-98 mark Viii are using same design front K-members.You will need 91-93 5.0 t-bird wiring and engine mounts or carb it and don't worry about wiring.you will also need an auto trans with pushrod bell-housing pattern.
 
also i think a 96 mark is obd II and that fox body would have been a obd 1 couln't that cause sme problems? i am not sure thow

A lot of work ? It's one of the easiest high HP swaps you can do. There is about $500 of extra parts on top of the engine cost if that. Add a $600 dynotune and you're game. Of course you need to factor in the trans work and rear end and exhaust work, but engine swap alone, it's the most cost effective and reliable power you can get these days.

For $5-6k you won't be able to get a new forged motor and a new centri blower setup.

I haven't heard of that kind of pushrod swap in a m8 yet, so that's the only cool point to it ;)
 
I think the wiring would be the biggest nightmare. Not worth it IMHO. Why not get a Mark VIII short block, have a stroker kit with forged internals installed, a set of C heads (99/01 cobra, 03/04 Cobra (best), Mach 1 (same as 03/04 cobra) or Marauder) then add a KB. There are many different choices to go with for under $5k. Say you get the car for $8k take the engine out you will not get much for a rolling chassis fox, lets say $2500.
 
If you want to drop that motor in a Mark you need to buy a Mark VII. If you want to spend 8k just supercharge the motor you have.
 
how much money is into the 306 odds are more than $8k if it is fully built It sounds a little slow for a light fox to run 10.6 on a "fully built motor" also dont forget to get a motor built is not cheep my friend has $13k in his 4.6 dohc alone that does not inculed the D1sc procharger and tune

I think It would be a cool car with that motor and if it was a stand alone computer It would help you wire problems for and auto trany you could use a 4r70w out of a v6 f150
 
I would just put a centrifugal Supercharger on your engine at that point. The height of the push rod engine would mean you have to have a taller hood.

That and your in NJ like me so inspection just plain old sux if your OBDII isn't working :(
 
he sunk $40k into the car .... the body work and paint was 15k.. ugly if you ask me but he likes it... i believe the block alone was 5k..

i guess its not really worth it ... for me at least....

ill post it in the for sale section maybe... i think 9k will take it home.. 8k for me since he owes me money
 
Depending on how close you are to E-town or Atco I would make a flyer and post it on one of there bulletin boards at one of the tracks.

Probably sell real fast that way as it's spring and loads or guys are looking for new race cars.
