Stupid question I know but.... How do you release the fuel pressure on a Mark? Or is it even necessary when changing the fuel filter? Thank you.

You can be lazy and release the pressure by detaching the fuel filter from the line, which is what I've done. Or you can poke the schrader valve on the fuel filter with a screwdriver or something. Either way keep a rag around it so you don't spray gas in unwanted places like your eye or mouth.

There is a schrader valve on the fuel line just like the same valve on your tires for the air. It is under a black cap, remove the black cap....wrap it with a rag, and then push the valve down releasing the pressure. Just make sure to have a rag or you will get gas ALL over the place.....not good.:shifty:

I figured it was something easy like that. Thanks guys. Last time I did a fuel filter cars had spark plug wires and distributors. Damn I guess I'm getting old.

Pull the fuel pump fuse, start the car and let it die out.... then crank again to release the remaining pressure.

Thats they correct way to do it and you dont make a mess.

i have a chilton and it doesnt say to do it like that....

do this while cars cold:
remove gas cap to relieve pressure from fuel tank
connect a fuel pressure guage to schrader valve to relieve pressure from fuel line -

but this other way seems way either -

the book also says to use nothing but hand tools remove the fuel filter

- this is from the chilton i got.

I just put the tools on to remover the filter and then change the filter. Clean up mess when finished. Never was too much.

ok, i got the bottom of the fuel filter out, it drained out a minimal ammount of fuel... but how do i get the top one to come out? the book says to pull with an axial directin (spinning)

i got the tool, i just dont understand how to use it right, im assuming its for the top part of the filter because the bottom came out with ease. im stuck please help!

This is precisely why i THREW my Chilton in the garbage! Worst car repair book i have ever used! Honestly, you are better to just search the threads here and find the info, than use that thing! If you really need a workshop book, look on Ebay for a proper Ford workshop manual for your year.

Chilton and Haynes both belong in the trash. I always just yank the line apart, gass comes out either way.
