Ok, I almost have all of the pieces to give my Mark a dose of HGH. Will some one tell me what kind of approximate horsepower would I be looking at? Here is what I will have done.

  • 3:73 Gears with Ford Trak Lok
  • Full 2.5" dual exhaust with Dynomax Bullet Mufflers
  • SCT Tune by Dennis Renhart
  • Underdrive Pulleys
Also, on underdrive pulleys, I notice all of the available pulley kits come with with three pulleys. Do I need all of these or one specific one?

Is this on your 97? The gears won't add horsepower but they multiply the torque you put down on the ground. I'm gonna guess around 230rwhp and 245 rwtq SAE corrected with the mods you list. As for the pulley kits, you don't have to use all three, you can use just the crank pulley and get a shorter size belt. In fact that's what I recommend. I like the March SFI balancer Summit Racing sells. The water pump pulley and the alt pulley are a waste of time. Might as well save up for an electric water pump.

Thanks, that's just what I needed. Would that be March Performance 1158? Incidentally, what are the Marks rated at stock when it comes to horse power?

Yea, the 1158 is the right part. You will have to relocate the air pump in front of the crank pulley a little closer to the electric fan and radiator. The Marks are rated at 280 horse/285 torque for the base and 290 horse/295 torque for the LSC's. Drivetrain loss is pretty close to 20% with the 4r70w and the IRS.

I got the the crank pulley today. What size belt should I get?

I maybe mistaken, But I thought the pulleys in the kit were sized so the original belt can be used. I didn't think you can change only one pulley without having a belt problem. sizing a belt maybe a problem.

Not judging by driller's post, no. The last three numbers are the length of the belt - 940 = 94.0 inches, 980 = 98.0 inches.

Personally - I say skip the dennis chip and get a custom tune. It'll cost you $100 more, but it'll be specific to your car and the mods you have. Later on, if you do more mods, you can jsut get another dyno and another flash to take the msot advantage of those mods.

I did a lot of research on all the different tuners, came down to Lonnie at the BOC or Dennis. If you start comparing their reputations, no contest there.

what about Torrie at fastpartsnetwork.com? I am a short drive from either Dennis or Torrie and itchin' for a chip.

Your also a short drive from the guys at Sniper Tuning, they will hook you up. They sell custom burned chips for cheaper than SCT. Not that SCT is bad, they have great tunes and tuners but Sniper can do everything SCT can for cheaper (usually).
