I guess I spoke too soon... my 97's mark viii has been running great... till I threw the belt... and it over heated... I changed the tensioner and idler pullies... but it kinda bubbled a lot of the coolant out... I refilled it... and now everyonce and awhile there's a low coolant error... I'm thinking it's just an air bubble in there... but the weird thing is it makes my temp gauge spike too!!... it doesn't go into the red but it gets up there... I don't have to do anything but wait and it'll go down... but you guys have any ideas?.... I put a new thermostat in also a couple weeks ago

IF the guage is moving around alot, you still have a bubble in the system.

re-fill at the X-over tube when the engine is stone cold.
then check and refill again the following day when the engine is stone cold.

rinse, lather repeat until you dont have the problem any more.

Sometimes, jacking up the front of the car helps move the air to the front of the car

That's what I thought it was.. I even checked the oil to see if maybe my head gasket was blown... that was the worse scenario I could think of... a friend told me to taste the oil if there was a sweetness to it coulda been the gasket... but luckily nothing but greasy oil taste :)...

why is it so hard to get air out of the system?... and which ones the hose you're speaking of?...

Tasting oil? LMAO. Yucky...

Hose? You mean the crossover tube right? Top up and bleed at that metal tube that runs from one bank to the other.

Our cars have a reverse flow cooling system, thats why its tricky.

the way i got the air out of mine is, i filled it and turned the heater as high as it goes left the the coolant cap off, and let the engine idle once the heater blows hot air the coolant will start lowering getting rid of the air all you have to do is top it off and make sure no more goes down. then cap it off and havent had that problem again. My buddy that owns a mechanic shop told me thats how they get the air out of all their coolant systems.

Cool I'll probably try the heater trick first... then if it doesn't work I'll pull the tube off... yeah he went to mechanics school so I trusted him... and I'd rather taste it and find out than go tryin to get air out when it's a head gasket... thanks for the tips hopefully I'll get it workin...

well it makes sense... oil doesn't really have a taste... and antifreeze has a pretty strong taste... so i figured if there's really any taste at all that's sweet it's a pretty good indicator

No problem I was just being a little sarcastic as I would never put any of that stuff in my mouth. It might be addictive. LOL
