First off, I emailed Torrie on Friday night at 11:30PM asking how I go about paying him for 3 tunes for the XCAL I picked up from chriswells78 on here. He tells me "hang on, I'll send you an invoice in a few". No joke, 5 minutes later I have an invoice and paid for it with my debit card. I ask what info he needs from me aside from the mods and he mentioned that I needed to read the stratgey code. I tell him that I'll have it to him tomorrow (Saturday). Within an hour of me sending him the info I had my 3 tunes (one for highway MPG, one for all around performance for the street and the last the same as the second, but with no traction control so I don't have to worry about it while at the track). Had the car done 15 minutes after he sent them to me. The throttle by wire delay is gone (feels much more responsive from a dead stop like the SST did stock), the car feels much stronger and quite different than it was stock. I didn't realize how much better the trans would shift at WOT until...

The woman, kids and I are on our way back from the boonies on Long Island Sunday night and some jerkoff decides he doesn't want to yield while merging on the highway so I then I mash the gas the avoid side-swiping this clown. When shifted out of gear, it made our necks snap back a bit. After which she says to me, "you paid for that?", and with a big :D I said "uh huh!". She just laughed and shook her head like I'm a nut. The crisp, hard shift was a pleasant surprise that I hadn't tried out on Saturday and kinda forgot about while driving Sunday night.

I may be hitting a dyno day down in Maryland this Saturday and hope to try and get stock vs. Torrie tune results.

I'm sorry I didn't do this sooner!

You can’t remove the throttle by wire for you would have no throttle; with a tune you optimize it. You can remove the rev limiter in Park and Neutral but they are not the same.

My experience, I can’t say enough about Torrie and his after the sale customer service.

Correction: There is still a rev limiter in at least park. I just had the car out to get to the woman's and tried it out. That's not a big deal to me that it's there since I won't sit there revving the car. :D

Did you ask Torrie to turn off the rev limiter?

I agree, I kept mine on, it seems like a good safety feature. Why would you want to race the engine over 3K in park or neutral.

Understood...I meant the "Throttle By Wire" Delay.

To me it just feels WEIRD not to be able to rev the engine if you so choose in an "Un-Juvenile" Manner.

I did ask, but I'm not sure it's possible to do (from some of the reading I did in past threads here). Like I mentioned, it's not a big deal to me. :)

For some reason the 3000 RPM limit turn off does not seem to work on all the 03+ cars as i did not on my first tune from Torrie. It may work on some, but it did not work on mine and I asked Torrie to leave that feature out of subsequent tunes. Small insurance for unknown lot boys at the dealer.:)

Dyno numbers from yesterday at Agile Automotive in Fallston, MD. on their Dynapack 3000. Didn't get the stock vs Torrie tune because I left the XCAL home.:eek:

My car's pulls:

1 - 244.1 RWHP / 252.4 RWTQ (car was cold and the A/F ratio was pretty fat)
2 - 236.1 RWHP / 259.8 RWTQ

Emailed these pics to Torrie yesterday so he could clean things up a bit and he sent me 3 new files today. Unfortunately I'm not home to upload it to the XCAL, so I'll get to it tomorrow at some point. If there's another dyno day (hopefully closer than the 3 hours I drove there and back :lol: ) I'll take it and see if there's any difference.
 
i keep looking to pick one up but new expenses keep coming up with every paycheck!! :mad: :mad: i know i've talked to one or two forum members already.. any chance we could see a baseline without the tune just to check thegain on the next dyno run? i have a gen 1 so i mean its not totally applicable to me but i would love to see the gain from a stock pull vs. the tune!

sorry - saw that you left the xcal home for the stock pull..
 
My intention was to do the stock vs Torrie tune, but I woke up a little later than planned and had to make a trip out of my way to my sister's place to pick up the video camera and make it to this place 3 hours away by 11. Next time I hopefully won't forget it!! :lol:

And just to update on the tunes...Torrie emailed me 3 new ones that I've loaded into the XCAL but not into the car yet. We shall see!
 
Yes, there's a USB cable that comes with it - looks like a regular USB on one side that connects to the PC, and the side that connects to the XCAL looks similar to one you'd see for a USB printer. You then use SCT's LiveLoad program to get the tunes into the device. Pretty simple, really.

yea easy enough.. i worked as a mechanic at goodyear and sears so interfacing with the OBD is simple enough.. whats that number that you need for the tune though some unique number off of the car? where do you find that?
 
Yeah, it's the strategy code. You connect the XCAL to the car Go to "DTC/Data Menu", click "select" then scroll down to "Read Strategy". It'll give you the code that the tuner needs to build files for your car.
