as far as the new under-drive dampener... ehhhh....
You have to line up the key-way with the key, AND avoid damaging the seal. If you failed to line up the key-way and attempted to press the dampener on with the bolt, you may have damaged (read: deformed) the key. Although a total PITA, it is fixable; you just have to removed your front cover, tensioners, timing chains, CPS gear and both timing chain sprockets... without thumping a valve into a piston, and then put it all back together again with proper cam timing... I hope you didn't damage the key!
Liberal amounts of oil on the shaft of the dampener might help, and inspect the seal to make sure it hasn't been damaged (there by getting in the way... or leaking later on for that matter. Might even want to think about throwing a new one in just for good measure!)
