It appears to me that they simply just add a mounting plate and maybe a harness connecter that is only for ease of install. Take a look:

vvv Looks cheaper than the other one and you simply just tap into the factory wires + - before the ballast.

Could there be anything bad doing what the first guy did? Essentially just cutting the "harness" that would go to the oem socket type, And splice those 2 + - wires in to our oem 2 wire harness.
The second one is pretty much the same but he has a socket at the end with 2 wires for looks.

I'm liking the idea of making my own adapter plate and buy one of the cheaper hid kits when mine poop out


Does this all make sence or did i get to far ahead of myself?
 
You could make your own plate, but there is a LOT more to it than meets the eye. So lets not turn this into a HUGE thread on that! LOL

But you have the lam's lumination point and it has to be EXACT. Exact depth is critical for focus. So just putting a bulb in there is NOT going to work, it had to have a very precisely made adapter or re-based lamp.

Best to go with a proven kit. The second link is proven, but there are cheaper out there.

But the second one looks like they bought this one and are trying to upsell and make a quick buck (also only 1 feedback):

edit: Figured it out, the second kit you linked to is a new profile for can-get-it - or so it looks, those kits were NOT focused right, they offset the lamp wrong.
 
Here is an alternative for the club members...this happens to be a customer of mine that has these kits.

Hi Max,

Thats the same one I linked too, and if I ever got something non-oem, that would be it.

But I still wish there was an OEM option for a Gen 1. Those OEM HIDs are like gold :(

yes it will work on a factory HID 96 Mark VIII, I can also get kits for a non HID gen

I would rather get a kit FOR a Mark VIII versus a kit that may (or may not) fit anything.
 
Thats a smart ad by google, they dont even have a Mark kit listed. Its not a sponsor.

And after looking at this sub-$100 kit, I think that even I may buy one! lol :D

For those of you looking though, its not a 9500 kit, so the last kits linked to will only work on halogen Marks.

thats just how they get a higher price for the item. The total cost is still cheaper than 99% of other kits out there. I will be buying them in a week or so and will let you guys know how they are and take some pics. Hell it could be 90.00 with free shipping, still cost the same.
 
Maybe I am going for overkill but I want one of those under $100 kits for my highbeams on my 98, and if they are based as a 9005 they should plug in as easy as a stock bulb. (of course they will also need to be wired)
 
Ya, I may get two sets also. Why not. Cheap enough and no mods. Since I have halogen housing the focal point is less and issue due to diffusion of the light pattern.

Only problem with HID for highs would be hot strikes.

I understand that, thats why I said its bogus. If they want a higher price, then just charge it. I wouldn't buy from him no matter how cheap his kit is, just because his is screwing the customer over on shipping charges. It is the principle of it. OF course, unless you have halogen housings that are no more than a 2 years old, these would be useless. Your still dealing with the no reflective coating dilemma. If you have good housings, I would just buy the HIR bulbs and be done with it.
 
I have new housing, I also had HIR lamps from Toshiba. They are "ok".
 
Halogen Infrared! It was a technology developed by GE, that was licensed to toshiba. They coat the front portion of a halogen bulb with three distinct clear coatings. These coatings reflect the infrared light back on to the filament. It burns brighter, creating more light. But there is usually no extra heat created. You must make sure that you get Genuine Toshiba bulbs. They were designed to emit 75% of the light output of an HID bulb.
 
my buddy has 4 kits i have one and they are nutz. He has his mark 10000k ram 8000k with his fog lights 8000k and integra 10000k dont ask me why but i got the 12000k for my mark well worth buy it now 50 and 38.99 shipping
