Anyone else ever test a Caddy STS in your LS?

I was coming home late last and it was just me and a STS on the road. After driving the same path for 10-15 miles we exited the highway and came to a stoplight. His license plate read "Fitted" which i assume was referring to his rims. Anyway, he was driving with a heavy foot on the highway so i got anxious and thought i'd test him alittle. The light turned green and he left first but i turned it on quick and we were off. The SST shifting helped hold the gears and i was able to pull ahead a good car length but i was impressed that he stayed right with me all the way to 100+. For what i would consider a bigger car i was impressed with its performance. I still took the checkered flag though.

what year? the 98-02 sts had 300hp and 300 torque roughly. i have a 98 and it has serious pickup and its FWD. The newer ones are about the same power if its the v8, unless it was the v6?

No doubt my LS would kill my 98 sts because it has 140k on the clock, but both brand new the STS would beat the LS

Racing on streets is unsafe.

Very true and i dont suggest such a thing. The road was completely empty and a nice 1-2 mile straight line with no lights but in that situation i would be held responsible if he had lost control and wrecked. Its more being caught in the moment than something that i intend on doing, but nonetheless foolish. If it was someone else posting this id be the first one to throw the dumbass flag at them.

It was the previous model, not the newer snowplow version. I used to be into those cars before i got my LS, i'd say it was a 02-04 model. I could tell he had his foot buried and gave me a good run. I think the edge i had was the SST ability to hold each gear to its max potential. I actually bounced the tach off the redline in 3rd watching him in my rearview mirror and not paying attention. If i had shifted that gear correctly i think i would have pulled away slightly more than i did. We were the only two on the road and had a perfect straight path. Other than being at a track we couldnt have had a more perfect setting. We both eventually backed off and i had a turn to catch.

"ain't no way you can say to me a lincolns better than a cadillac....cadillacs got more acceleration, it's got more power, it's got better handling, it's got what, more legroom for your legs, it's got more power."

i agree on the cadillac>lincoln.

Are you sure it was an STS or was it an SLS, the SLS had about 30 less horse. But even so, my LS would beat my STS now like i said. But in its glory the STS wouldve beaten the LS. that northstar 32v can pull like a mule and I think it will last longer than my lincoln too haha.

You guys better think about this a bit...all it takes is about 500 extra pounds to wipe away 20 horsepower. That and FWD, will slow your caddy down!

All im saying is no one ever thinks 4 door luxo barges like an LS or STS can run, but i definentely love how an STS and LS can destroy a little ricer who doesnt know any better. Im also biased, I just like cadillacs better. A lot more than just power and weight go into making a car what it is.

im not saying i doubt him. Im sure he did beat the caddy. I think thats an awesome race actually.. This site is Lincoln vs Cadillac... so its a very fitting race.

I was driving a 90 Mustang GT 5.0 5/spd with intake, headers and exhaust back in 1994 when I ran into a new NorthStar on the highway and it whooped my arse with 4 people in his car.

The poor GT couldnt hang with it past 120MPH.

I am sure it was an STS because i was behind him on the highway for a good 10 minutes and took the same path. We both had radar detectors but i was letting him be my gopher and take the lead. Like i said though, i was really into those cars and i can tell you for sure it was a later model STS, the rear decklid was changed in the final years of the "seville", also the headlights are alittle different. Anyway he had a system in it and some chrome rims, they werent huge or anything, probably only 19's but looked alright....that would have been a difference in weight, otherwise it was a really nice STS. When the light turned green i let him make the first move, after he saw and heard me punch it in 1st he floored it also. As i stated before, i think a big advantage i had was the ability to manually shift gears which makes a difference over him just punching the pedal to the floor. I pulled away from him all the way thru 4th even after missing the 3-4 shift. Once in 4th i was a good car length ahead, enough to see his headlights in my rearview and then it was a stalemate, i couldnt pull away anymore and he wasnt catching up. It was all in good fun. Im not posting to bash cadillac but to give what i would consider a bigger car some props. And by the look on his face i think he gained some respect for the Lincoln name.

Back when i was in high school a friend of mine's dad had the two door caddy with the northstar and that thing was awesome to take out and abuse. Back then the big dogs were a 5.0. stang, T/A or Z28, or corvette. That Northstar would hang with all but the LT1 vette.

Hey Fla02LS, I am just curious about one thing. Why is it that you are THE FIRST person to usually jump on another individual in here whenever they post their "street racing" experiences in their LS but then you turn around and do the same thing? I do not believe I have ever seen more blatant hypocrisy. You jump down people's throats saying stuff like "Why would you want to race in an LS anyways, its not a sports car" and then do this? If you are going to try to set an example you first have to BE that example. As far as I am concerned you have no room to chastise any of the other kids in here when they decide it is fun to do stupid things in their LS. I am not really trying to get on your case too much, but it just seems that you are treating other members here in an unfair manner.

With that said. Good kill.

Really seems to be your M.O., racing all kinds of sports cars in your LS. I surely enjoy reading about people like you who somehow lack something else in their life to get fullfilment from racing on public roads in an LS. Not saying that i've never exceeded the speed limit, but its not something i get enjoyment out of and feel the need to post on a internet forum regularly.

Taken October 4th for power2kilya's race against an S2000. haha
not doggin on ya, Im glad you raced the STS. But this does support ILLS just a tad I guess

It was either an STS or DTS, around an '02 or so that I raced(sort of) when I still had the LS and smoked him. He was much older too, got all on my butt as I moved over before the lane ran out, I braked checked him after he got really close and start swurving behind me. He back way off than, sore prick

The "edge" was the extra gear. The N* has some major torque (now how I would know that... :p ) but it only has 4 gears, which is a good thing, because the torque steer was bad enough. I used to change lanes to pass people without even turning the wheel in my 97. Once you get into 3rd gear the race is a little closer, the caddy weighs just slightly more, and the FWD doesn't help. The extra gear was one of the main reasons I bought my LS. Even though it has 50 less horsepower than my Caddy, it was just as fast in a straight line. (and a ton faster in the twisties)

I'm not going to try to excuse what i did. I deserve any and all sh!t that i'll get over this thread. The difference in my mind is the few times i have done any racing its all been on the highway, not actual streets. Its always been when there are no other cars around and i have the cruise set and some guy comes flying up on me, so i get an itch to test them out. Its dumb because i would be held responisble to some degree if the other car wrecked. I think when i read other stories they are interpreted differently than my own experience when i am behind the wheel. Some have wrote about races from stoplight to stoplight which i dont play that game. But like i said, i have three races under my belt against a G35 coupe, S2000, STS...all on the highway and late at night. I agree i jump on people alot but i atleast admit when i'm stupid. That said i have 63k on my '05 now so any racing that would shorten its life span really isnt something i intend on doing.

P.S. - Although racing isnt my thing i atleast owned all three of the cars that i tested. Makes you feel good about the car you own.

just thought i would say what an idiot you are, and how irresponsible you are.

im jk. good kill sir. keep the "safe" stories coming...
