i have a 93 w/87k and i put a set of autolite resitors in it and drove from chicago to pennsilvainia and got 300 miles out of one tank and i also changed one o2 befor i left and on the way back i changed the other before i left and i got 28.5mpg on the way back i went 445 miles on the highway and went to 480 in town for a day or two. i had the just the mufflers cut off when i went on the trip, i was also geting 15.5 to 16.5-17 in the city, i did nothing but cut the exhaust back futher and put duel side pipes out the drivers side, ill get pics up soon it looks bad,bad in the good sense of the word. but now ive been geting 12 to 13 in the city all the time, i have stock wires, and filter may need changing but i know it started when i put the sidepipes on, it still has 3 cats and a resonator though, but i think this may be a backpressure issue? does anyone know of any other marks w/side pipes? also i have sct chip tuned by lonnie at blue oval, and still get the same mpg.??????

I have no clue what you are saying. Lets try sentences next time :) But if you have stock wires, change them! That will help a lot. As for plugs, Autolite 764 are the only ones to use for best economy and performance, anything else will last longer but sacrifice the economy and performance a little.

As for back pressure, you dont need it on this block. I drover several miles with JUST manifolds on the way to the exhaust shop. Great MPG actually. New engine, had to check that reading :)

i have no misses and the car screames, with very smooth idle. Also i got wonderfull milage with these plugs and wires before the exhaust change, and i think to get an accurate mpg reading you have to drive longer than from your house to the muffler shop. also the plugs are no more than 6 months old. how could the wires make that big of a diffrence if there is no missing, hesitation or lack of power?? oh and sorry somtimes i write on here like im talking.

Well the older the wires, the less spark. The less spark can equal less detonation of the mixture. Then the car compensates which could mean that it adds more fuel.

Any FYI the exhaust shop was in another city and about 30 minutes away...

Oh and if you have an ohm meter you can always read their resistance.

What did you gap the plugs?

Shouldn't there be like 1000 ohms in the wires, I know there not 100% conductive when new?

I found this , it my help, http://www.inct.net/~autotips/plugwire.htm

it says 1000-4000 ohms, it should say on the box of some new ones

There there are the coil packs too. They age not so well. In fact, they can fail just due to age not milage at all.

For optimal MPG you want properly gapped plugs, new-ish wires and newer coil packs. Just replacing those alone will pick up the kick level and economy.

Also NEVER EVER get cheap O2 sensors. What brand did you get? Where they the heated type (four wire)?

Something tells me the new exaust has lead to a condition know as lead foot which is causing a decrease in your milleage.

i have MADE myself not even once get into the gas or romp on it for one whole day, plus i use to stomp it befor the pipes. and if i remember the o2 where from advance auto, but they are heated 4 wire bosch, and bosch does make a decent o2, just not plugs. and as for the pugs, they are gapped at what they where when i was getting good gas milage, and ur guess is as good as mine on that one. and does anyone know how i can contact this max guy at ford, i would like to get a set of the motorsport wires, and the lightning plugs?
