my '95 mark is already in storage for the winter, but i start it every two weeks just to keep everything moving. today when i started it it idles real funny. the idle is really rough like it has a huge cam in it. then when i give it some gas it idles fine for about a minute, then kicks down and idles really rough again. anybody got any thoughts? truly appreciated.

IAC (Idle Air Control) may be gummed up. When you run it every two weeks, do you drive it around and get it up to full temp?

no i just run it in my garage for about 15 min. but it has done it in the summer when i was driving it. just seems to be more consistent now.

Then it is most likely the IAC, they seem to act up even more when its colder out.

Being a 95 its a PAIN to replace :(

where is the iac exactly? i looked in chilton's but it's a pretty crappy picture.

Its almost against the firewall. Passenger side, back of intake manifold.

my 93 does that too but only when it is cold and for a minute.i did have iac problem but i changed it to a used mustang 5.0.it fixed my 2000rpm idle but mabe it is still finiky.-is that a word. maybe it is a cold sensor or something

Hey cfischr! Ever think your rough idle and hard brakes could be related? i.e. a vacuum leak? When my idle went crazy my brakes also became hard. Turned out to be a vacuum leak between the m/cyl and brake booster. Now, im not saying this is definitely your trouble but certainly something worth investigating.

Yep I had the exact same problem, exact same solution, 4 bucks at autozone and I was green.

well I had the same problem and I fixed it today.Crank your engine, get under the hood and listen for any hissing noise. Mine wound up being that t-shaped rubber vacumn connection at the back of the intake manifold.Basically it had a big a** hole in it and I had a major vacume leak.I replaced the gen 1 part with a gen 2--it seemed to be a lot better made.good luck I hope this helps

IAC here, and I also had a bad idle and I couldent do a burnout, it turned out to be a vacume leak. I had to fidle with the brake boost when I did my upper control arms and knocked something loose.
