All Mark 8s came with a 4r70w trans, not the AODE.

It is a 4r70w Automatic OverDrive Electronic. so in other words its a 4r70w AODE. AODE is pretty much saying its an automatic transsmission with overdrive that is electronically controlled.

yeah AODE is almost exactly the same as a 4r70w different plantarys. 4r70w is a wide ration version of the AODE they are very similar besides that.

run, run fast... get away from AMMCO! They are famous for "it needs a rebuild" tactics when only minor problems exist!

That's interesting...probably wouldn't doubt it though.

What about Cottman transmission? Heard anything about them??

You would probably be better off finding an independently owned transmission shop. Seems to me these shops are usually better than the big chains, as long as they seem reputable.

OMG

find a respected private shop, dont use chain store trans shops, atleast here iin Pa they all suck in some way or another.

By far the best rebuild guys are the ones that don't advertise. The little hole in the wall shops with two or three people in it. They do the best work, because they care more. Look for a shop like that.

thanks fellas i needed to here that im just gonna use my father in laws drive way to fix my trans mission and go from there thanks you for all your help !!!!!! buy the way whats the easiest way to drop the transmission and change out the tc ? and whats the best range to look for one?

And FYI, if the engine stays in you need to crack a tab off the trans that will hit the engine as you lower. Thats normal, ok, fine, in teh shop manual, etc..!
